Someday in the future we may not need to have money in our pockets. Is life easier when people don’t need to carry any money? Maybe in the future each of us will have only one small credit card. We will use it instead of money to buy all the things.

Of course we may still have some of the same problems with cards we now have with money. For example, we lose money from time to time. Maybe we will lose the cards. Maybe someone will take the cards. Someone may even make a card that looks like our cards. Since we can’t buy anything without our cards, the credit cards may be no better than money.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了加利福尼亚公司将通过在轨道上建造一家酒店,为人们提供在太空度假的机会。并介绍了这家酒店的一些特色。

【推荐1】Can’t find any place on Earth for your next holiday? Lucky for you, Space tourism is no longer a thing of science fiction. A Californian company is going to offer you a chance to take a vacation in space by building a hotel in orbit (轨道).

The Orbital Assembly Corporation plans to build Voyager Station, a space hotel that includes rooms for tourists, in 2026, and open it in 2027. It will be able to carry up to 400 people.

The space hotel will be shaped like a large wheel, with 24 space pods (舱) around the outside of the 200-meter-wide structure. Each pod is 24 meters long and 12 meters wide. The pods will be used for restaurants, bars, gyms, rooms for tourists, laboratories for research and so on.

The company says that some pods will even be private homes that people can buy. “Finally, going to space will just be another choice for people’s vacation, just like going on a cruise, or going to Disney World,” said Tim Alatorre, senior architect (建筑师) of the space hotel. He said that the space hotel may even include a concert hall and a movie theater.

The company says that the space hotel will have gravity (重力) that is about one-sixth as strong as Earth’s. The low gravity means people can do things like jump higher, lift heavier things and enjoy sports such as basketball in a new way.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了一种新的机器人ChatGPT。
【推荐2】

Chat GPT is a kind of a new robot that was trained by Open AI company in San Francisco. It is able to understand the human languages and communicate with human beings as well. By having dialogues with people, it is possible for Chat GPT to answer questions, realize its mistakes, challenge incorrect settings, and refuse some requests that are not very suitable.

GPT is short for Generative Pre-trained Transformer (生成型预训练变换模型). Its producer Elon Musk says, “Chat GPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.” It has reached 100 million users in just two months after coming out, according to the experts.

Chat GPT is a good talker and listener. It can become serious or humorous in different situations. For example, one says, “Tell me a lie.” Chat GPT answers, “The sky is made of green cheese.” Then he says, “That’s a bad lie. Tell me more lies.” Then Chat GPT says, “I am a human being.”

Besides communicating, this AI chatbot (聊天机器人) can also write e-mails and papers. It is unbelievable that it is good at creating poems and stories. GPT technology can even help people write code (密码) quickly and correctly. Maybe one day, it can work as a level three engineer.

However, some experts tell that Chat GPT may not be able to answer questions that are outside of its training data (数据). Chat GPT doesn’t change our lives completely, but it proves that the artificial intelligence (人工智能) has developed into a new stage. Do you think Chat GPT will take place of human beings?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了Open AI公司推出的最新型AI聊天机器人ChatGPT,主要介绍了它能够做什么以及存在的一些问题。

【推荐3】The company Open AI introduced ChatGPT to the world. It is the latest kind of AI chatbots. Anyone can use ChatGPT for free now so that the company can collect (收集) people’s ideas on how to improve it.

ChatGPT is able to write articles for newspapers. And when teachers ask it to write answers to exam questions, ChatGPT can almost get full marks. In our everyday life, it can help a father come up with ideas of a birthday party for his son. It is also able to solve difficult coding (编程) challenges (挑战) and answer very quickly.

What’s more, when people ask ChatGPT questions, it can find mistakes. If somebody asks what happened when Columbus arrived in America in 2023, ChatGPT can point out that Columbus reached America in the 1400s, not in 2023. It can also refuse to answer some questions. For example, if you ask it for advice on stealing a car, it will say that stealing a car can have bad results. Instead, it gives advice such as “taking the bus”.

ChatGPT might help people solve problems, but AI must use texts (文档) from the Internet. Often, the texts are used without being allowed (允许) by the writers of those texts, and sometimes the writers wouldn’t like to share their texts with others at all. So some people think that AI is bad for the human.

However, like it or not, AI is here. Maybe working on it well is the best way out.
