At the beginning of 2021, the Chinese government said it will provide free COVID-19 vaccines(疫苗) to all Chinese citizens. Since then, millions of people have gotten the vaccine. Let’s take a closer look.
▲
The vaccine is given by injection (注射). It’s suggested to get two doses. You should wait about two weeks after the first dose to get the second one.
Can people of all ages get vaccinated?
The vaccines have been tested among three different age groups: 3 to 17, 18 to 59, and 60 and above. The 18-to-59 age group has the most data (数据) the vaccines have been proven to be safe in this group. The other two groups are expected to be included soon.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t get vaccinated?
Experts say the vaccines are safe for most people. But people who have serious diseases such as cancer or diabetes (糖尿病), or people who are allergic (过敏的) to any of the vaccine’s ingredients, should not get it. People who want to get the vaccine should not get any other vaccines during the same period.
Do I still need to wear a mask in public places after I’ve been vaccinated?
Yes. It takes a few weeks for the body to build immunity after vaccination. This means it’s possible for a person to get infected (传染的) just after vaccination. There is also a small chance that your body won’t build immunity. So before the population becomes immune to the virus, it’s highly encouraged to keep wearing masks, practicing social distancing (社交隔离) and washing your hands after getting vaccinated.

Many people with dyslexia (阅读困难症) see words on the pages this way. Certain letters might look backwards or upside down or the words might seem to “jump” around.
Dyslexia is a condition that influences a person’s ability to read, write, spell, and listen. Someone with dyslexia has a hard time making the connection between the way letters look and the sounds of words. Though learning may be more difficult for kids with dyslexia, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t smart. It means they have trouble translating what they see, hear, or write into meaningful information.
So, what causes dyslexia? Scientists believe a trouble in the brain makes decoding (编译) languages difficult for some people. Although there is no cure for it, some doctors think that if caught early, dyslexia can be improved. One way to do this is by teaching readers to read out words and practise reading. Many dyslexia people discover their own ways, such as listening to books on tape or asking for more time to complete tests.

【推荐2】During the two sessions(两会), people around the world talk about China. Have you ever wondered what topics Generation Zers (people born 1995—2009) are most interested in? In March 2022, China Daily did a survey on topics of the two sessions to see what interests Generation Zers most. Let’s take a look.
Among all topics, “mental health” got the most votes. “Spreading traditional culture” (83%) followed closely. The top choice is not unexpected. Reports on mental health problems of teenagers have increased in recent years. The rate of depression (抑郁) among them was nearly 25%. The attention they give to mental health shows that they care for their own well-being. When they don’t feel well, they dare to speak out and ask for help.
Although Generation Zers are young, they understand the power of traditional culture. Zhao Yan, a junior 2 student from Liaoning Riwan Middle School, said, “My school set up many clubs to help students understand the importance of traditional culture. I join a paper-cutting workshop and a hanfu club. It has not only helped me practise my handwork skills but also let me know the beauty of art. It’s our duty to pass this great art to future generations.”
Instead of only focusing on themselves, Generation Zers also set their eyes on social problems. Kevin Xu, a 16-year-old boy from Shenzhen, told the reporter. “I care about the prevention and control measures of COVID-19. I’m now studying in the UK. In February, the UK government ended quarantine (隔离) rules. It means that COVID-19 patients can go out. This would never happen in China! I think China’s ‘dynamic zero-case’ (动态清零) policy sounds more responsible. A country should protect its people in a pandemic.”
People seem to know little about Generation Zers. Thanks to this survey, we are able to take a closer look at “what Generation Zers care about” and paint a picture of what they are like.
1. According to the passage, what might be the percent of votes of mental health in the survey?A.95% | B.84% | C.25% | D.75% |
A.It is glad to find teenagers pay attention to their own health. |

Such a small pet-care center in fact is a big step for love. It shows the local government’s care for people’s different needs during the outbreaks.
Because of COVID-19, many provinces and cities are taking strict measures to control the daily activities of people. Many people have been taken into quarantine, leaving their pets unattended (无人看管). Taking care of those pets is of great importance. Firstly, most pet owners see their pets as members of their family. A simple and cruel way to treat the unattended pets will not only hurt their masters, but also cause misunderstanding among the people. Secondly, pets are also people’s private possession (财产) that the local governments have to take more seriously. Taking good care of pets will show the governments’ respect to both life and private possession. Last but not least, according to 2021 White Paper on pet industry, there are over 112 million pet dogs and cats in China. That means on average 8 out of every 100 Chinese have a pet, mostly a dog or a cat. So taking care of pets is no longer a small event for a big city.
Shenzhen has set a good example, with the local government coming forward to care for pets while their masters are in quarantine. The newly-built pet care center makes the fighting against the outbreaks of COVID-19 more heart-warmingly.
Widespread praise on the small pet center in Shenzhen shows people’s great requirements to have their pets well housed when they are in quarantine, which should be paid attention to. Although the care center can only house at most 300 pets, it’s undoubtedly a good start.
1. How many reasons are mentioned about the importance of taking care of pets?A.One | B.Two | C.Three | D.Four |
