文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,从各方面介绍了日本的地震文化。

【推荐1】When the big earthquake hit Japan several years ago, workers in a supermarket in Japan didn’t run away. Instead, they held on to the shelves and tried to stop the goods from falling down.

Reporters from NHK, the country’s largest TV station, stayed calm in front of cameras during the earthquake, even though some were facing real danger.

The earthquake was the most powerful one to hit Japan in the country’s history. But Japan’s reaction to the earthquake has shown that it is the most earthquake-prepared country in the world. The calm that they showed during and after the quake has impressed the world.

This is because Japan has an earthquake culture. Japanese people are taught how to prepare for and react to an earthquake from a young age.

One way kids learn about earthquake safety is from the cartoon character Maruko, a 9-year-old student. In Chibi Maruko Chan (《樱桃小丸子》), Maruko has to wear a protective hat in an earthquake practice. Schools in Japan organize earthquake practices every month. They make students become familiar (熟悉的) with being in an earthquake.

Japan also has a good earthquake warning (警告) system. The warning system is unable to predict an earthquake, but it can usually alert (使警觉) people about 15 seconds before they feel the effects. Even 15 to 20 seconds can be enough to save people’s lives.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了自我意识是什么,它的重要性以及如何学会更有自我意识。

【推荐2】If you had to describe yourself to someone else, what would you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but being aware of who you are can help you understand feelings and strengthen friendships.

Self-awareness means knowing your thoughts, feelings and behavior, and understanding how you fit into the world. If you are self-aware, you may know that you love playing basketball because you are good at it, and music makes you happy, or that you prefer watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.

Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good at and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and even which films to watch. You learn to trust your own feelings more, which builds confidence. The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of the ten important life skills that help young people lead happier and healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you have more understanding for other people, too.

A good way to learn about anything is to ask questions. Ask yourself questions that start with “What” instead of “Why”. So if you don’t understand why you keep arguing with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you are arguing. If you are wondering whether you’ll like a book, ask yourself what were the last three books you loved and what you liked about them. Looking for patterns in your own likes and dislikes is a good way to learn more about yourself.

Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different music. Don’t be afraid to dislike something—discovering what you find difficult and challenging is a key part of learning more about yourself.

2. Which paragraph tells us how to learn to be self-aware?
A.Paragraph 2.B.Paragraph 3.
C.Paragraph 4.D.Paragraph 5.

A.“What mistakes do I always made?”
B.“How will I avoid making mistakes?”
C.“When did I make such mistakes last?”
D.“Why do I always make such mistakes?”
4. Why is self-awareness important to young people?
A.Because it leads young people to their final success.

5. What’s the best title for the text?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了关于大脑的一些有趣的事实。

【推荐3】We humans have walked on the moon, treated illness and have built buildings, from ancient houses to tall modern buildings. So what is it that makes us so special? The answer is our brains. The human brain can control our thoughts (行为). Below are more facts about this natural supercomputer.

Scientists have discovered that while most areas of the brain finish forming before we leave high school, the areas that deal with planning, reasoning, the brain starts going down slowly, making our mid-20s the time when our brains are truly the strongest in reaction!

Besides, three-quarters of the brain’s weight is water. If the brain is short of water, it can cause a headache and even the memory (记忆力) will go down.

We often think that a bigger brain means a better brain. However, a bigger brain does not always mean a smarter brain. For example, elephants have much larger brains than humans, and can’t deal with the information. Our brains aren’t the biggest, but they are the brightest. The brain’s size is important, but the structure (结构) is even more so.

Of course, these aren’t the only interesting things about the brain. In fact, the brain still has quite a few secrets for scientists to solve.

B.To describe what humans can do.
C.To introduce differences of brains.
D.To explain why the brain can control humans.

B.By listing numbers.
C.By giving data.
D.By telling a story.
3. Which of the following decides a better brain?
A.The brain’s size.
B.The brain’s shape.
C.The brain’s organization.
D.The brain’s weight.
4. What do you know from the end of the text?
A.Humans have a full understanding of the brain.
