The color red is everywhere during the Spring Festival. People think red is a happy color and will bring them a beautiful future. People wear red, too. They decorate (装饰) their homes with pieces of red paper. Kids get a lot of “hong bao”. It is a red paper bag with money in it. Usually, older people give younger ones hong bao. They think it brings good luck.

The Spring Festival is the time to make everybody happy. So don’t say any bad words or do anything that will bring unhappiness to other people.

For example, you’d better not say any bad words like “death”. Don’t break anything. People think that it means your luck is running out.

Also, don’t borrow or lend money on these days. If you have borrowed money, return it before the Spring Festival.

【推荐2】The two mascots (吉祥物) for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games-Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon have gained worldwide popularity for their outlook and special meanings.

One mascot for Beijing 2022 is a giant panda with a suit of ice, a love of winter sports, and a heart of gold! It is designed in 3D and looks like an astronaut. It wears an ice shell (冰壳) and looks fat. “Bing” means ice in Chinese, representing purity and strength, while “Dwen Dwen” means health and vitality (活力), and symbolizes the strong body.

The design for Bing Dwen Dwen was chosen from over 5, 800 submissions (提交) from China and 35 countries around the world as part of a global competition arranged by the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee.

Another mascot “Shuey Rhon Rhon” is a Chinese lantern child. When the Chinese New Year comes, people always make or buy red lanterns. Red is the colour of hope and good luck, so people think their dreams will come true in the new year. “Shuey Rhon Rhon” can give players hope and help them do well in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games.

【推荐3】With the Olympic flame (火焰) extinguished (熄灭), the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games drew to a close on Feb 20.

The president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach described the Games as “truly exceptional (非凡的)”. “This unforgettable experience was only possible because of our gracious (亲切的) hosts, the Chinese people,”said Bach.

At the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, a total of 2,897 athletes from 91 countries and regions competed for 109 gold medals. Through 17 days of outstanding performances, 17 Olympic records, including two world records, were broken. The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games was the most gender⁃balanced (性别平衡的) to date, where 45 percent of the athletes were female.

As the first city to ever host both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics, Beijing provided thoughtful service for all participants(参与者). It followed four principles—being “green (绿色), inclusive(共享), open (开放) and clean (廉洁)”,and three requirements—being “streamlined (简约), safe and splendid (精彩)”.

Still, the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games faced great challenges. It was the first international multi⁃sport event to be held on schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic. To deal with it, athletes were kept safe within a closed loop (闭环), preventing any imported cases (输入病例) from spreading to the public. Bach said China was one of the safest places on the planet and this was a great achievement.

Chinese food and culture during the Spring Festival impressed international athletes. Many shared photos and videos of the Games on social media.

The event, particularly, witnessed (见证) the rise of people born between 1995 and 2010. They made a name for themselves and inspired (激励) people around the world with their passion and courage. For example, 18-year-old Gu Ailing won two gold medals and a silver medal in freestyle skiing (自由式滑雪). She tried an amazing jump she had never tried before—four and a half full rotations (四周半旋转) in the air before landing backward (向后) in the big air event.
