Up to Dec. 22nd, it had taken 117 lives and injured 781 people in Gansu Province, said Xinhua. More than 3,000 rescuers had arrived at the quake-affected areas up to Dec. 19th.
An earthquake may happen at any time. Although we can’t prevent an earthquake for happening, it’s best for us to know what to do, where to be safe and who to contact during the earthquake. The following information will help you.
Remember: Prepare your personal earthquake bag. Collect these items, like water, food, medicine, mobile phone, flashlight, personal washing things, blanket and money. Keep them somewhere near you.
Remember: Drop, hide, hold and contact. Drop to the floor and protect your head and neck with your arms. Hide yourself beside something like a table or a bed. Hold the furniture so that you won’t move away during the earthquake. Contact family and friends to tell them where you are.
Remember: Never do these things. Stand close to the buildings (because they may fall on you) . Stand under the trees or signs (because it’s better for you to stand in an open space) . Go too close to the power lines (because you may be badly hurt by electricity) .
Disasters can’t be avoided but they can be lessened (减轻) once you are prepared and ready for one.
