夏威夷之旅:一场短暂的逃离
For over a year, I had not left my house because of the pandemic. I dreamed of a getaway.
Luckily, my best friend was also thinking of getting out of Los Angeles and invited me to go to Hawaii with her family. After two COVID-19 tests and a double-masked five-hour flight, our five-person group arrived on the Big Island in Hawaii.
We packed into a car and drove to our rental (租的) house. It was late at night, so we didn’t really see the island until the next day. Our first day was bright and sunny, so we spent all day at the beach before getting shaved ice (刨冰).
We found possibly the best shaved ice place on the island. Big Island Shaved Ice Company (BISIC) has homemade, natural shaved ice flavors (口味) such as passion fruit (百香果), lychee (荔枝), coconut and mango. Unsurprisingly, we visited the place every day.
Other than the delicious dessert, Hawaii treated (招待) us to cloudy, sometimes rainy weather on the days we planned to go hiking to waterfalls, and sunny weather on the days we planned to head to the beaches (where I got very, very sunburned). My favorite activity, though, was when we went horseback riding. We saw bright green fields and breathtaking views of the island’s shoreline (海岸线). I rode a horse named Arya. Along the way, our guide told us interesting stories about the island.
Although I was sad to leave, after a week of laughter and fun, I was more prepared to go back into quarantine (隔离).

It’s a Friday afternoon, and I was taking an English test. Suddenly I was very worried that I couldn’t find the right answer to a problem, though I could solve it in usual time. So I knocked at Jimmy’s back quietly and lightly. He knew my meaning right away and passed me a piece of paper quietly. I surprisingly found it said “I believe you can make it”.
