The question has caught many interviewees off guard. Even Mo Yan, who recently won a Nobel Prize, answered by saying “I don’t know.”
We should ask “What exactly is happiness? And how do you measure(测量) it?”. Last year, China’s Premier Wen Jiabao told the nation, “Everything we do is aimed at letting people live more happily.” At last year’s National People’s Congress(全国人民代表大会), officials agreed that increasing happiness would be a top target(目标) for the 12th five-year plan.
Many argue that happiness is elusive. It also means different things to different people. For some, happiness can be as simple as having enough money to buy a new bicycle; for others, it’s about socializing(社交活动) or finding the perfect spouse(配偶).
Chen Shangyuan, 21, a college student, said his idea of happiness always evolves(进化). “At present it relates to how productive I am in a day”, he said. “It might be linked to(联系) job security (安全) or leisure(休闲) time after I graduate.”

So it came as no surprise to learn that researchers believe crying and laughing come from the same part of the brain. Just as laughing has many health advantages, scientists are discovering that so, too, does crying.
Whatever it takes for us to reduce pressure is important to our emotional health, and crying seems to work well. One study found that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men report feeling better after crying.
Besides, tears attract help from other people. Researchers agree that when we cry, people around us become kinder and friendlier and they are more ready to provide support and comfort. Tears also enable us to understand our emotions better; sometimes we don’t even know we’re very sad until we cry. We learn about our emotions through crying, and then we can deal with them.
Just as crying can be healthy, not crying holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering can be bad for physical health. Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illnesses. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don’t fight it. It’s a natural and healthy emotional response.

At first, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It's always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is,“You can't.” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn't failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn't work.
Finally, when you make a mistake, you are that much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn't mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes.
We shouldn't spend all our time and money on the only one way, but use them correctly. Because our time and money are limited (有限的).
There is an old saying, “If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.

Sitting there worrying is no use and it can’t solve your problems. Grades at school are often a top worry for kids. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:
◆Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?
◆How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?
◆Do I have a good learning environment?
◆Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things to do, you could choose one thing that may get your friend back.
You can ask for help when you’re worried. You can find someone to talk to, such as your parents, friends and teachers.

At last, you grow up. At least you are no longer a child. They call you "young lady". You then enjoy being a young lady. You are proud (骄傲) of being a grown-up teenager. People welcome you—this young lady warmly. You are glad that your prayer has been answered.
But there is always something that troubles you a lot. You say, "Papa and Mama, give me some money please. My pocket money is all gone (用完) already."
"No," they say, "Your age is dangerous. If you have too much money to spend, it won't do you any good." Then you have to stay at home because you dare(敢)not go out with an empty pocket.
Another time you tell your grandma, "Grandma, see, I am a grown-up now."
"Good, now, you can sit here and knit (编织) this for me when I go and have a rest." To show that you are no more a child, you have to sit there the whole afternoon doing the work, which only a grown-up can do. After an hour, you find it hard to do, and give the knitting basket back to your grandma. Your grandma criticizes (批评) your work. You hear what she says, "Such a big girl can't do such easy work." You wish then you were a child again.
But the fact is, you are growing up, and you can't help it. That's the way it goes.

The exhibition shows bottles, tubes, pens and yoga mats made from carbon as well as models of the carbon capture machines that can provide this carbon. They include the Lackner artificial tree which mirrors the actions of living plants by breathing in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and exhaling oxygen (呼出氧气). It was built by Klaus Lackner. The device is amazing, but its structure is complicated and the usage is limited (限制的). Besides, there also are the Swiss Climework’s carbon extractor system and a carbon capture device developed at Aberdeen University. All can remove carbon from air to be used for alcohol or other products.
To help protect the planet from the effects of Global Warming, we have to do more than only stop carbon dioxide getting into the atmosphere. We also need to find ways to remove carbon dioxide after it has been put there. Simply planting trees and plants will not be enough to solve the problem. Firstly, the machine can be fitted to gas and coal- burning power stations and factories and then used to hold back the carbon dioxide they would emit (排放). The technology can also be used to recapture carbon dioxide that had already been in the air.
But the exhibition also makes it clear that even moderately large groups of these devices now can remove only a few tens of tonnes of carbon a year- compared with the 50 billion tonnes that cars and factories add to the atmosphere every year. So, it’s urgent (紧急的) to develop and use these new technologies on a large scale (规模) to make a real difference in fighting climate change. Using these on a large scale will be very hard.
However, there is still a hopeful route. It is like the mobile phone. Twenty years ago, they were expensive and difficult to use but have been improved upon relentlessly (不停地). These gas- harvesting machines can be improved upon quickly by generations, so that they will be cheaper and more efficient in the future. If we don’t do something like that we will be in real trouble.

He Sudan is a sand painting artist. She was born into an artistic family in Hunan Province. She started to show her talent in painting as a child. She took up sand painting while she was studying at university. Back then, there were no lessons about sand painting in the university, so she learned it by watching online videos. She is famous around China for her sand paintings about China’s 24 solar terms(节气).
The 24 solar terms are part of the traditional Chinese calendar. They are known as the “fifth great invention” of China. They are useful for people’s life and work. Many farmers still depend on the solar terms now to decide what they should do in the fields.
However, few young people know about the 24 solar terms. She wants to use her sand paintings to tell stories about the solar terms so that more young Chinese can learn about each of them. It takes her about one week to create each sand painting. “I’ll create more sand paintings to promote(推广)traditional Chinese culture,” she said proudly.
