We have arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first day to Thailand. All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.
Tuesday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful and surprising! The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.
Friday, March 30th
Our trip to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life—no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say “hello”. Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. I feel good here and hope to be able to come back next year. This afternoon, we will go to Chiang Mai Airport and go back home.

There are three kinds of booth libraries. One is Library Booth. People can take the books in the booth home. When they finish reading, they need to bring the books back. One is Celebrity (名流) Exhibition Hall. In the booth, people can learn about some great people, like Ba Jin and Ke Ling. The last one is One Book Booth. There is always a new book in it.
Now there are over 200 booth libraries in Shanghai. People love them very much. “They are fantastic places to enjoy reading and have a rest,” they say. Can people use the phones in the booths? Sure! And they can make emergency (紧急的) calls, like 110 and 120 for free.

What is the heaviest old bronze ware (青铜器) in the world? What does the oldest money in China look like? What are some of the best works of jade art (玉器)? Come to the National Museum of China, and you’ll find out.
On March 1st 2011, the new National Museum of China reopened after a year-long trial operation (试运行). Its 200,000-square-metre area makes it the largest museum in the world. The museum has more than 1.2 million wonderful things.
Houmuwu Ding (后母戊鼎,原称司母戊鼎) of the Shang Dynasty was a symbol of power (权力的象征) in old times. The square vessel with four rams (四羊方尊) is another treasure. It was used to hold wine (酒).
Visitors can see a rich collection of Chinese old money, such as shells, knife-shaped coins and metal coins (贝壳币、刀币、金属币) from the late Qin Dynasty.
The museum also shows great things from modern times, like Yang Liwei’s spacesuit and the Shenzhou V spaceship.
Want to learn history in an interesting way? In the role-playing room, visitors can wear traditional clothes and use things from old times. Free guide software (软件) for mobile phones is also helpful for visitors.
