【推荐1】Nobody likes a bully (恶霸). But bullying is a big problem around the world. According to the US National Bullying Prevention Center, one fifth students in the US have been bullied.

Nathan Fellars is an eighth grade student at Centennial Middle School in Utah, US. When he saw classmates being bullied, he knew he had to do something. “People often deal with bullying after the bullying has happened. I wanted to see if there was a way to reduce (减少) bullying before it happens at all,” Fellars told the Society for Science.

After studying more about the causes (起因) of bullying, he had an idea to make the app Bully Block. On the app, students can share their lives, whether good or bad. Others can then post responses (回复). But before the responses are posted, an AI program reads all of them. Only positive (积极的) words will be shown. Fellars believes that this will naturally stop bullying both online and in schools.

“I would love to see my app be used by teachers and students,” said Fellars. “I love knowing that it can help somebody else in the world.” Do you think Fellars’ dream can come true? Do you want to be a person like Fellars?

【推荐1】Last year, the First class for New School Year moved the classroom to the Chinese space station. Through the “heaven and earth connection” way, three astronauts Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, Tang Hongbo were invited to give a special “space teaching” to the students.

Research shows that millions of adults have very poor mathematical (有关数学的) skills.     1     These tasks include understanding travel timetables and household bills and even checking our change in shops. As a result, poor numerical skills would often cause personal disadvantages. Besides, it also causes a number of other social and personal illnesses.

While adults’ ability to read and write has been improving, adults’ mathematical skills have at the same time been getting worse. The fact of the matter is that many people who are good at reading and writing simply don’t like maths.     2     What’s more, maths isn’t cool. It’s OK to say “I’m not good at maths”.     3     To many people, maths is simply a boring school subject for which there is no need to make much of an effort because they won’t need it once they leave school.

Unluckily, the problem seems to be passed down to the children. I do not understand why some parents make their kids help with housework and chores at home. Kids these days already have enough stress from school.     1     Housework is a waste of their time. Could we just let them do their job as students? They should spend their time on schoolwork in order to get good grades and get into a good university.     2     It is the parents’ job to provide a clean and comfortable environment at home for their children. And anyway, I think doing chores is not so difficult. I do not mind doing them.

Our neighbors’ son got into a good college but during his first year, he had no idea how to take care of himself.     5     The earlier kids learn to be independent, the better it is for their future.
