The Earth is about 4,600 million years old. People live on the Earth for only 35,000 years. But we change the Earth in many ways. Many things we do are good, but some are not good for the Earth.
Water pollution
A lot of people, birds and fish die each day because of water pollution. Factories pollute the water. As a result, the water in many rivers and lakes is very dirty now.
Air pollution
In big cities, factories, cars and buses are the main causes (原因) of air pollution. Many people in cities now have health problems. For example, Mexico used to be a beautiful city and was a good place for people to live, but today there is lots of PM2.5 in the air. And many people get ill because of the polluted air.
Soil (土壤) pollution
In order to have a better harvest (收获), some farmers use chemicals (化学物质) in their fields. That’s bad for the soil.
Hope for the future
These problems are very bad for our future, so all of us should do something to protect the environment. If we can stop pollution, the Earth will become more and more beautiful.

At noon—about six to eight hours after you wake up—your body temperature goes down.
In many parts of the world, people take naps in the middle of the day, especially in hot weather, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon.
Many working people have no time to take naps though doctors may advise taking naps in the early afternoon. Here are a few tips about your nap:

Ant Forest is a feature(功能)in the Alipay mobile payment app. It records users' low-carbon(低碳的)activities -taking a bus to work instead of driving, for example - and gives users "green energy". When the user's green energy gets high enough, Ant Forest and its partners will plant a real tree for the user.
Ant Forest recently received the 2019 Champions of the Earth award ("地球卫士奖"), the UN's highest environmental honor (荣誉), for encouraging people to live greener lifestyles and protect the environment.
About half a billion people have used Ant Forest since it came out in August 2016. April 22nd is World Earth Day. It’s a day that tells us to care about our planet.
The Earth faces a lot of problems. Global (全球的) warming is the biggest problem in the world. It makes the Earth hot and changes the global weather.
It also makes the sea level (海平面) rise. If the sea level keeps rising, some places such as the Maldives, St. Petersburg in Russia and Bangkok in Thailand may disappear under water in just a few years.
Another big problem is water pollution. We can only use 3% of the Earth’s water. But people throw rubbish and pour dirty water into rivers and the sea. Almost 884 million people don’t have clean water to drink.
Besides, humans are using up natural resources (资源). Forests are becoming smaller and smaller because people cut them down for building. There will be no coal to use on the Earth by 2158 and oil will dry up by 2050.
It’s everyone’s duty to save the Earth.

After a while, the smoke becomes very thick. Ann and the bear could no longer breathe. “Put out your cigarette,” said Qiqi, who quickly joined them. “You two are making mistakes. Ann is making noise pollution, and the bear is making air pollution.”

Humans enjoy talking to their dogs. If you have a four-legged friend of your own, you might have taught them to respond to commands (命令) like “sit” and “stay”. While it’s true that they may not be able to take in much of what you’re saying, a new study has suggested that dogs can understand more than you might think.
Scientists carried out an experiment that focused on nouns (words for things). Eighteen dogs were taken to the lab, and their owners brought five objects their pets knew well, including shoes, toys and balls. For the experiment, the owners said the name of an object. Then they showed their dog either the object that matched the word or a different one. The dogs wore special devices (仪器) on their heads that were used to record their brain activity.
For 14 of the 18 dogs, brain activity was different when the object matched the word, compared to the activity if the word and object didn’t match. This brain activity was similar to the brain activity humans show in the same kind of situation.
“The dog was thinking. ‘I heard the word, now the object needs to come.’” says Lilla Magyari, a scientist at the University of Stavanger in Norway.
Why, then, do some dogs refuse to get a ball or a toy back at their owners’ command? “It might be that the dogs don’t really care enough about the game,” says Holly Root-Gutteridge, a dog behavior researcher at the University of Lincoln in England. “Your dog may understand what you’re saying but choose not to act.”
Moving forward, researchers are curious to know whether other animals can match words with objects, or whether this ability is special to dogs.
