Look at the picture on the right. What is it? Yeah, it’s a special(特殊的) robot car, ROPITS. Japan made it this year. It’s a new kind of car. The car can drive itself(它自己). It is very easy for people to use it.

ROPITS is short for Robot for Personal Intelligent Transport System (个人智能交通系统机器人). ROPITS has only one seat. The Japanese made it for old and disabled (残疾的) people in Japan.

What makes the ROPITS special? One can ask it to pick him or her up from a computer or a smart-phone(智能手机). After he or she gets in the car and tells the ROPITS where to go, it will begin to drive itself and let the driver enjoy the ride.

The ROPITS will not have traffic accidents (事故) because it drives very slowly, not more than 7 kilometers an hour.

【推荐2】How do you like to travel, by plane or by train? Surely, planes are fast and easy. However traveling by train has its own charms (迷人之处). The train itself can be part of the fun.

China’s first panda-topic train started to run on March 28, 2021.

The train runs from Chengdu in Sichuan to Zunyi in Guizhou. It has panda pictures inside and outside. Passengers(乘客) can try a panda-shaped cake. Workers who carry panda toys will welcome them

The train also has great service(服务). People call it a “mobile star hotel”. It has a dining room, a bar, a dance hall, karaoke rooms, and mahjong(麻将) rooms. People from Sichuan are known for their love of mahjong. In the dining room, passengers can order Sichuan food.

With 12 cars, the train can take 252 passengers. Two or three passengers share one room with a washroom. They can take a shower on the train. The train also has a smart service system(系统), long tables for enjoying scenery, 5G internet, and a song-ordering service

Passengers can enjoy a three-day trip on the train. After arriving, they will visit the sites in Guizhou, such as the Site of the Zunyi Conference(遵义会议). If the train does well, it might travel to other parts of the country, according to a local railway company

A car or a bus can’t stop quickly.     4     Some people don’t understand (理解) this. They think a car can stop at once. It is difficult to know how fast a car is moving. The only way to cross the roads safely is to look both ways, right and left.     5    

【推荐2】We can see many traffic signs on both sides (边) of the roads or streets. Some tell the drivers what to do, and others tell them what not to do. The traffic signs are the traffic rules. All the people must obey the rules.

Each traffic sign has its meaning (意思). Do you see the sign “P”? Do you know its meaning?

There are a lot of cars and buses in big cities, so the drivers can’t stop on the street. If a driver wants to stop his car, he must find a place for his car—a car stop. For a driver, how does he find a car stop? The traffic sign “P” can help him. “P” is the first letter of the word “Park” and its meaning is “You can stop your car here!” After the driver finds the car stop, he can park his car there. And then he can do other things.

It’s very important to obey the traffic rules (遵守交通规则). If you live in the city and go to school by bike every day, you must be very careful, or you may have an accident. You can’t ride too fast, and you can’t let your classmates or friends sit behind you. You have to stop at a stop sign.

【推荐3】This is a street crossing. There are red and green lights at each corner. Drivers must watch the lights carefully. When there is a green light, the cars may go. When there is a red light, the cars must stop. They must wait until the red light changes to green. Then they can go on.

Sometimes the cars want to make a right turn or a left turn. They can make a right turn when the light is green or red. But they must wait until the green light is shining if they want to turn left.

Some people are color-blind(色盲). They can not see the difference between red and green lights.These people must not drive, or there will be accidents. We must keep our streets safe.

This village was white until 2011. Now, Juzcar is blue. The film company Sony painted the buildings blue to celebrate the film, The Smurfs (蓝精灵), about small, blue characters. When Sony came to clean the blue from the buildings, the people said, “No”. They wanted to keep their town blue.

Shani shingnapur, India

The village of Shani shingnapur is like any other vllage, with one big difference: there are no doors here. Villagers feel safe, so they don’t put doors on houses or shops. And there’s very little crime (不法行为) in the village.

Giethoorn, Netherlands

This small village of under 3,000 people is another example of a village that hasn’t got something most villages have: roads. This village has got only canals (运河), pavements (人行道) and bridges. Cars must stay out of the village. People walk or use boats instead.

Hi, Grandma! Here I am in Paris. Jenny and I arrived by plane the day before yesterday. Aunt Joan and Uncle Pete met us at the airport. We were tired so we relaxed at home and began our tour of the city yesterday.

Yesterday we went to the Louvre Museum. It has many world-famous works of art, such as the Mona Lisa. In the evening we had dinner in a French restaurant. The food was delicious!

This morning we took a walk. There are shops and restaurants everywhere, and I love the street markets. They sell such good fruit and vegetables. We also did some shopping. I bought a present for you. I hope you’ll like it!

At about three o’clock we took the Paris Underground to the Eiffel Tower. It is really high. There were lots of tourists, so first of all, we had to wait in line for an hour, and then we went to top. We waited till all the lights were on. It was wonderful!

Tomorrow we’re going to visit a famous palace and take a boat tour on the River Seine. I’ll write again.

【推荐1】Did the wind ever blow your hat away? Did you ever drop your notebook on a windy day? How many important pages did you lose? Wind is moving air. It can pick up light materials and carry them far away.

Wind is a force of erosion(侵蚀). It can carry away small materials such as dust particles(灰尘微粒) and sand particles from the earth’s surface. However, wind itself does not cause much erosion. Most “wind” erosion is done by particles which are carried by wind. Wind is an important natural force of erosion in dry places.

Wind can easily pick up sand particles. When they are blown against rocks, the sand particles hit the rocks in the wind. This happens over and over again. Little by little, the rocks wear down.

The particles which are carried by wind not only cause erosion, they also build up. What is carried away by the wind in one place will drop somewhere else.

When wind slows down, it drops the materials that it is carrying. When sand is dropped, it builds up and becomes dunes(沙丘). Sand dunes are common in deserts and on beaches. Some dunes can be harmful. They can bury(埋) farms and homes, even whole towns.

Wind carries dust particles higher and farther than it carries sand. Thick deposits of wind-blown dust may also build up. The wind-blown dust is called loess(黄土). Loess deposits are found in Washington State and Oregon State.   

Sometimes people plant grasses and trees to try to stop wind erosion. How does this help? The roots of plants help to hold down soil and other particles found on the ground.

【推荐3】With a history of 2,700 years, Pingyao, a town in North China’s Shanxi Province, is famous for its well-protected ancient buildings. It was even named as a world heritage site（世界文化遗产）by UNESCO in 1997. This year before October, the 5G technology will enter Pingyao, the local government said.

The 5G technologies are planned to be first used in two places -- one in a diesel engine（柴油机）factory that sends 5G signals and another one in a newly opened hospital that receives 5G signals, according to Chen Hongjin, the director of the information center of Pingyao. Covering an area of around 70,000 square meters, the diesel engine factory is an important place that provides energy for many key events, such as the Pingyao international Film Festival and the Pingyao International Photography Festival.

The soon coming 5G can allow high-definition（高清）live TV programs and VR/AR apps to come true in common families, and make it easy for the hospital to send and share medical information.

Chen said Pingyao would slowly expand 5G networks in more areas including transport, tourism, banking and so on.
