Wang Yaping, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou XIII on October 16th 2021. The 41-year-old Wang became the first female astronaut(女航天员)to enter Tiangong space station.
Wang’s space dream started in 2003, when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. At that time, Wang was a pilot(飞行员)in the Chinese army. After having safe flights for 1,600 hours over nine years, Wang was a strong candidate(候选人)to become an astronaut in 2010. She pushed herself hard, getting the same training as men. “The space environment won’t change because you are a woman,” she told Xinhua. The hardest part is the high-G training. Sitting in a spinning(旋转的)machine, Wang would become blind for a while because her brain was short of blood. “There’s a red button(按钮),” said Wang. “If you can’t bear it, you can press it to stop.” But Wang never used it. “There is no such red button in my heart.” That strong spirit finally made her dream come true in 2013. She joined the team for the Shenzhou X mission.
Wang said that as astronauts, women have their own advantages(优势). “Women may be more patient and can better deal with loneliness. Women’s hearts are also easier to adapt(适应)to the weightless environment, making them more suitable for long-term missions.”
Wang Yaping went a long way before becoming the first woman to enter the Tiangong space station. She sets a good example for all women who dream of going to space.
1. Is Wang Yaping the first female astronaut to go into space or to enter Tiangong space station?2. How long has she been a pilot before she became an astronaut?
3. Translate the underlined sentence into Chinese. (英译汉)
4. What makes her dream come true?
5. What is the advantage of a women astronaut?

During the Song Dynasty (960-1279), there was an official named Zhang Guaiya who worked in Chongyang county(县), in today’s Hubei. Theft(偷窃)was common at that time—even money from the county’s vault(钱库)was stolen(偷盗).
One day, Zhang saw a low-ranking(低阶的)official come out of the vault in a hurry. Zhang stopped him and asked, “Why are you in such a hurry?”
“No reason,” said the official.

Zhang asked him how much more money he had stolen. The official said he didn’t steal(偷) anything else. Zhang ordered the guards to beat the official.
The official didn’t give in. He said, “I only stole a copper coin. You can’t kill me just because of that!”

A year ago, I made a game called “The Endless Chore Game”. It is really great. Here’s how the game works.
I make a card with forty squares, and I write a different chore on each square. These chores can be easy and interesting like making dessert. Then my family rolls the dice (骰子) to decide what chores we have to do. The card also has a few squares with fun things, like watching TV and singing. If you are lucky, you can watch TV while the others are doing the chores.
My son likes the game best. He goes to the kitchen happily every morning to do the game. It is really a good way to make my children do chores. You can have a try if you have the same problem as me.

This afternoon when I was about to go there, the telephone rang. It was my husband, “Sorry, dear, but I have to work late in my shop today. So you have to take Taylor home after school.” I decided to take my son with me to the old people’s home for the first time because I couldn’t find any friend to help take care of him.
With my new partner, I started my work. I found that just when we wanted to leave their rooms, my son kissed everyone on their faces and whispered (低声说) something in their ears. Every lady looked happy.
Later in the evening, my husband asked how my work went on “It’s lots of fun,” I said “We are quite a pair. When Taylor kissed to the ladies, it surely made them happy, especially when he whispered in their ears.”
“What did you whisper about?” asked my husband.
Looking up at his dad and me with his big brown eyes, he told us, “I whispered, ‘I love you, Grandma. And I just want you to know that you look so beautiful today.’”

April 16th, 2022 is a big day for the three astronauts, Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu. Because they returned to Earth safely after having a six months’ stay on the country’s Tiangong space station. On Oct. 16th, 2021, Shenzhou XIII carried out three Chinese astronauts(航天员)into space. They lived and worked in Tiangong score module(核心舱)Tianhe during six months. This will be the longest space journey by Chinese astronauts. Zhai Zhigang holds the Chinese record(记录)for most spacewalks. Especially, WangYaping is the first Chinese woman to enter a spaçe station and walk in space.
Let’s try to find out what their life is like in space. They had two spacewalks and did tests. They gave two open classes on science and space and they made a live video call with students in Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao.
Besides their work in space, they tried to enjoy their free time outside of work. So they exercised every day, read books, watched TV shows and movies, listened to music and held video calls with their family members. Also they brought their favorite things with them in space to enjoy their hobbies. Zhai Zhigang brought the four treasures of Chinese calligraphy(书法的笔墨纸砚)and Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu brought their traditional Chinese musical instruments. During their stay in space, Zhai practiced his calligraphy and wrote Spring Festival couplets. Wang and Ye gave musical shows with the guzheng and Hulusi.
They are our heroes. Welcome home!

On October 12, 2022, students from all over the country took the third live class from China’s space station. Shenzhou-14 members Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe gave the class to students on the earth.
At the beginning of the 50-minute class, the astronauts showed the new “classroom”, the Wentian lab module (问天实验舱). They worked and lived there. It became part of China’s space station in July last year.
The astronauts did four interesting experiments (实验) in the microgravity (微重力) environment. Liu Yang tried drinking mango juice with a two-metre straw and she made it! Another experiment showed that a water ball became “lazy” after a small steel ball was put inside it. Chen Dong made two T-handles “dance” on the space station…The astronauts also invited students to do the experiments on the earth. The students found the differences between space and the earth. “How interesting!” they said.
The astronauts also answered questions from students like “how to become an astronaut” and “what kinds of plants they will grow in space in the future”.
It was the first science class from the Wentian lab module and the third “Tiangong Class”. The first and second were given by the Shenzhou-13 members in the station’s Tianhe core module. The classes made a lot of young people fall in love with space science.

3. How did Liu Yang drink mango juice?
4. What else did the students do after watching and doing the experiments?

The Shenzhou XIII mission was sent on October 16th, 2021. The astronauts are Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu. They planned to spend six months working in the space station. Early last month, 41, was China’s first woman spacewalker in the space.
They gave space-based classes from space station to students around the world. The astronauts showed the space station and their scientific experiments to the students, and showed some interesting physical phenomena to them.
On October 13th, almost all students watched the space-based classes around China. It was the first time for Chinese students to have classes in this new way. It is a good way to make more young people be more interested in the space and study science and technology harder.
