It is important for you to learn some knowledge (知识) about first aid (急救) in your everyday life. If a person has an accident, other people should try their best to help him in time. When you give first aid, you must know several things. First, when a person stops breathing, open his mouth. Second, if a person cannot breathe, you can use a mouth-to-mouth way to help him. Third, if a person is hurt by a knife, you should stop the bleeding at once, you can clean it and put a piece of clean paper round the cut. If a person loses one third of the blood, he may die.

When a person is burnt(烧伤), wash and cool the area of the skin(皮肤) under the cold water for a while. Then put a piece of dry clean cloth over the burn. If a person cuts his finger, clean it and put a piece of paper round the cut.

Besides, you must put dangerous articles (物品) in safe places where children cannot touch them. Children must be told of the danger. Everybody should know some first aid to save life. Sometimes, life or death is just decided in a few seconds.

The Importance of First Aid

First aid is the immediate care given to a person who has been injured or suddenly ill, including self-help and home care if medical help is not available or delayed. First aid knowledge means life or death during an emergency situation so that the greatest possible good may be done for the greatest number of people.

General Treatment to Burns

●Move the injured away from the heat source.

●Check the breathing and pulse as well as the extent and depth of burns.
