Mr. Brown works in New York and he brought his family to China last summer. They visited many places of interest and had a good time here. Before they left for New York, the Browns climbed the Great Wall. It was the greatest project over two thousand years ago. They took a lot of photos there and then they had a picnic under a big tree. Suddenly it began to rain and they hurried to the car. And when they returned to the hotel, they couldn’t find the bag in which their expensive camera was. They were all sorry for it. They could buy another camera but had no time to go to the Great Wall again. They could not miss the plane!
That evening they didn’t have supper. Mr. Brown hoped to make them happy, so he said, “Well, let me tell you a story. An old man lived in a sixty-floor building. One day he fell down from it when he was cleaning the window. But he didn’t hurt himself.”
“It was a miracle!” called out his children, “Why?”
“Because he lived on the first floor!”
They all began to laugh while two policemen with a bag came in. They said a Chinese boy found it under a big tree and he asked them to find out who lost it.
“It’s really a miracle!” the Browns said happily.

Sivert Klefsaas did just that.
In 2016, Loma Goldstrand Klefsaas challenged (挑战) her 12-year-old son Sivert to stay away from social media for six years. If he completed, she would give him the money on his birthday. On February 19, 2022, Sivert got his prize.
Sivert said it wasn’t too difficult to live without social media, and he didn’t think about it much during the six years. As a 12-year-old boy, Sivert said he wasn’t using social media very often. “I wouldn’t say there was ever a time when I thought I was about to break,” he said. “As it went on, it was more of an interesting thing.”
He also had his friends talk about the latest information with him. “I said no to all the unnecessary things happening around,” Sivert added. It also meant he had more time for schoolwork and sports instead.
“We are not against social media, but it’s the healthy using of it,” Lorna noted. “It’s about not letting yourself feel sad and worried about it, or affected (影响) by things that people share.”
“It was affecting their lifestyles,” she said. When one of her daughters was 16, Lorna took away her phone because of it. Lorna says her daughter later thanked her for doing so, as it made her feel better.

“Milano Cortina 2026 might be my last Winter Olympics. Whatever the result will be, I have only one goal, which is to go beyond my earlier results,” 33-year-old Olympic champion Xu Mengtao said at her book launch party (新书发布会).
Xu was born in 1990 in Liaoning Province. Her parents ran a BBQ restaurant, where Xu would help out during holidays. Xu started her sports career at the age of 4 as a gymnast, before changing to freestyle skiing aerials (自由式滑雪空中技巧) at the age of 12, when she was considered too tall to continue gymnastics.
Xu has won 55 freestyle skiing aerials championships so far,but they have come at a cost.
Xu has had four operations on her knees. When she took part in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, there were steel pins (钢钉) in her knees. Just as at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, she wanted to get an Olympic gold medal. Unluckily, she failed to achieve her goal, although she tried her best.
But failures, painful injuries and lonely months of recovery didn’t stop her. Xu finally realized her dream at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics,by completing three somersaults (空翻) on her final jump.
In her book, Xu records her true feelings about her life over the past 30 years, her memories of heart-stopping international competitions, the number of medals she won, the low points she managed to overcome and her full preparation for each competition.“Plan each jump, review each problem and look for every possibility. The real situation is unpredictable, so I have to be fully prepared,” Xu wrote in the book.
