A group of lines with different colors around its head stand for the tracks on ice rink. They also stand for fast 5G signals

Three years ago, Bing Dwen Dwen became the mascot for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The design was chosen from 5,816 works from 38 countries and areas. Cao Xue, the chief designer of Bing Dwen Dwen, said that the idea first came from Bingtanghulu, a traditional Chinese snack. However, a simple snack couldn’t stand for a country by itself. Cao’s team tried many animals and plants and finally decided on a panda. “What can stand for China better than our national treasure?” “We don’t need to explain anything. It can be easily understood by all people from different cultures.”

However, there were already too many cartoon images of pandas. The mascot needed to be creative. Cao first decided that it should be a baby panda instead of an adult one, so its body is as long as its head.

Cao’s team looked all around the world to collect panda designs they could find. They wanted to make sure that their panda looked special. In order to look for inspiration, they visited the Wolong Nature Reserve (保护区) in Sichuan.

Now the panda in an ice shell has been made into toys and models, as well as printed on notebooks, badges and bags. People of all ages like them very much. “Design is like dancing with chains. I’m glad we performed a good dance.” said Cao.

Do you often travel? Do you often stay in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide(提供) guests with disposable(一次性的)thing, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers(拖鞋). Many guests like the idea because they don't have to bring their own. But if you travel to Beijing remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing will no longer provide guests with these disposables. They want to ask people to use less disposable things.

Many disposable things are made of plastic (塑料). People throw them away after only using them once. It is a waste of natural resources(资源) and is very bad for the environment(环境).Do you know, one Chinese person makes as much as 400 kg of waste a year! Most of that waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 2, 320 tons of plastic lunch bowls every year! Plastic can take between 100 and 400 years to break down(分解). So the less plastic we throw out, the better. So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again.

Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your everyday life. Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones. After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then you can use it over and over again. do not use paper cups. At your school dining room, use your own bowl and chopsticks instead of (代替)disposable ones.

To protect our environment and our home, it is very necessary and important for us to save natural resources.

【推荐3】Why Do We Care So Much About Our Hair?

If you stress over your tresses(女性的头发) to the point that unruly hair ruins your mood, you’re not alone. A survey showed that 23 percent of women don’t want to leave their house on a bad hair day.

“That sounds extreme? Not when you consider that young girls receive more compliments for their hair, smile or eye color than for their soccer skills or math expertise,” says Dr Marianne LaFrance, a psychologist at Yale University. “From early on, women are given the message that appearance is massively important, and it can become marker for their success in life,” says LaFrance.

Hair can be a significant piece of that puzzle. In a Harvard study, women who felt like they looked younger after a cut, color or both showed a drop in blood pressure, suggesting that a simple haircut can make your body more youthful.

So the question is, if your hair can make you feel amazing, is that a bad thing? For the most part, no. “Your outward appearance projects things about you, and people will make judgments about you based on that,” says Art Markman, a professor of psychology at the University of Texas. Hair plays a role because it frames your face and it’s a prominent part of first impressions, so it’s natural to care for it.

What’s more, Professor Markman says, when you look good, it gives you an extra feeling of confidence, which allows you to take risks. You might find the nerve to speak to someone you normally wouldn’t,   or do something gutsy (大胆的) in an office presentation. “There’s research that shows when you’re in a positive mood, a lot of things go better,” he says.

Besides riding a good-hair high to social and work success, you can use hair to shape your   identity (身份). “Because hair is so malleable (有可塑性的) , it can give women a feeling of control over their bodies which they don’t otherwise have,” says Viren Swami, psychologist at the University of Westminster in London.
