Space technology Russian and American scientists have worked together for the International Space Station (ISS) for a long time. They hope the ISS will provide a long-lasting lab. Such a lab will bring humans limitless (无限的) advantages. It’s even hoped that one day space technology will take humans to their new houses in space. |
Underwater robot Hercules is a kind of underwater robot with some high technology equipment. It will be used to search for ancient ships which were destroyed into the deep sea during their journey long ago. |
The world is changing so quickly that it’s hard for us to catch up with all the new inventions because they seem to come out every month. It’s important for us to learn about new technology and the role that it plays in our lives. So we should be willing to accept modern technology, or we will fall behind the times.

As we all know, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is very successful. During the Games, there are some inventions that benefit people a lot. Let’s take a look at them.
Fresh Air As COVID-19 can spread through the air, clean air is the key to keep all Games players safe and healthy. The Winter Olympics uses large mobile air purifiers(净化器). They can catch and kill bacteria(细菌)from the air making sure that large closed gyms have clean air all the time.
Disinfection(消毒)robot Beijing’s Wukesong Sports Center hosts ice hockey events. There is a robot for disinfection. The 1.4-meter-tall robot has a giraffe-like neck, a fan on its head and a big “belly”. It can work for four to five hours at a time. The robot also uses radar(雷达)to help it find its way. With a mobile app, people can send it to different places.
Inspection(巡检)robot “Hello friend, please wear a mask,” says a robot named Xiaobai. With a height of 74 centimeters, the robot can recognize(识别)people up to five meters away. It walks over to a person who is not wearing a mask and advises him or her to wear one. The robot moves at a speed of 6 to 10 kilometers per hour.
Smart “Band-Aid” To learn the health condition of Olympic players and visitors, a wearable thermometer(体温计)will measure body temperatures. The thermometer is in the shape of a bandage. Scientists have found out that the radiation (辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of the radiation from the sun and other stars, which s bad for their health. The harm of the radiation won’t be found until their children even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really effective medicine has been found so far.
Space rubbish is also thought to be great danger to spacemen. It’s reported that there were 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space rubbish. An explosion (爆炸) in space in 1999 made a cloud of 300, 000 fragments (碎片), each at least 4mm in size. A small piece of these even knocked a spaceship window and caused some damage (损坏).
Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working to deal with space rubbish. Although space is really dangerous, it interests many people on the earth, In the near future, it may become possible for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space in a few years. So we should do something to help improve the space environment.
