A father from California, USA has touched the hearts of many people for starting “Dad Lunch Notes” to help his daughter, Alice.
Eric Brown and his family moved houses many times because of his job. The moves were not easy for his daughter, Alice. After all the moves, Alice was going to fourth grade and starting at her fourth new school in five years. She was worried about school and nervous. Having noticed the feelings of his daughter, Eric decided to start leaving Alice lunch notes to help her.
Eric wrote his first note on August14, 2017, which said, “Alice, be nice to others. Not everyone will look like you. Learn to look for the unique(独一无二的) and special things in other people. You have the power to change someone’s life. Love, Dad.”
One lunch note quickly became more than 690. The loving notes from Eric have helped Alice along the way. Now, Alice is heading to eighth grade.
For Eric, the notes have helped him gain motivation(动力), too.“It makes me feel like I’m doing my part as a dad,” Eric said. “Seeing how she’s growing up and how well she’s done at school-if she can find the confidence with the help of the notes, then I’ve done my job as a parent.”
Eric published the notes in a book, Lucky Enough. He hopes they will encourage others to develop a better relationship with their children.
“Just by showing a bit of kindness to your children, you’re going to bring them to do something nice for somebody else. It’s a domino effect,” said Eric.

When most people graduate from high school or college, they usually think their education is complete. But in fact, it’s important to continue learning after finishing school. Personally speaking, learning can be fun. It can give you something interesting to talk about. And it is good for your brain. Just as exercise makes your body stronger, your mind becomes sharper when you use it. Being a lifelong learner can also help you with your work or job. Knowledge in other areas can help you develop creative ideas in your present job. So how do you become a lifelong learner? First, you should stick to learning new things even when it isn’t easy. It may help if you find friends who will encourage your learning. It’s also a good idea to find time to learn during your day. Carry a book with you, and read when you have to wait. Audio (有声的) books are also helpful. You can listen to them while traveling or doing chores. Finding ways to use what you learn can help you remember things. If you want to learn how to fix appliances (家用电器), try fixing some at home. If you’re learning a foreign language, find someone who speaks that language to talk to. If you’re learning facts about science, explain what you’re learning to someone else. Then you can help that person be a lifelong learner, too! |

【推荐3】Sir Patrick Moore was a well-known humorous astronomer. Like many scientists, he enjoyed playing harmless jokes on people. Some years ago, he received an invitation to give a series of talks on the radio. One day, at the end of his talk, the host said, your next talk about gravity (重力) will start at 9 a.m. on the first of April-April Fool’s Day. Why don’t you play a joke on the listeners? Patrick Moore agreed.
Over the next few days, Patrick Moore could not think of a joke. Then, on his way to the radio station on April 1, he saw some children jumping up and down in the street. That gave him an idea. He arrived at the station and gave his talk. At the end of his talk, he told his listeners, “The planets Jupiter and Saturn are very close to each other this morning. This will reduce the gravity of the Earth. If you jump into the air at exactly 9:47 a.m., you will be able to float (漂浮) for several seconds.”
A few minutes after 9:47 a.m., the phones began to ring. Some people said, “You just played a joke on us.” Some said, “We obeyed your instructions but did not float in the air!”
