Like schools in China, American schools begin in September after a long summer holiday. There are two terms in a school year. The first term is from September to January and the second is from February to the start of June. Usually, American children begin to go to school when they are five years old. When they are eleven or twelve years old, they go to middle school. Most of them are seventeen or eighteen years old when they finish high school.
But unlike middle school students in China, high school students in America usually take only four or five subjects each term. They usually go to the same classes every day and have homework for every class. After class they do many interesting things.
After high school, many students go to college (大学). They may go to a small or large one. Studying in colleges is a little expensive. So lots of students work after school to make money for their studies.

But how can you achieve what it is that you want to do? According to one of my favourite books, The Four Disciplines of Execution, there are four steps. Focus on your“wildly important goals”(your “WIGs”), measure your progress, and finally check your progress. So what’s your WIG?

The Department for Education(教育部)hopes the cookery courses can help children to learn about good food and reduce childhood obesity(肥胖).

Check the environment. Watch the situation carefully. Is there anything that might do harm to you? Will you or the victim be hurt by fire, harmful smoke, a broken building, electrical wires or other dangerous situations? Do not rush into a place where you could be a victim yourself.
If being close to the victim will put your life in danger, search for skilled help at once. Skilled people have received special training and know how to deal with these situations. First aid isn ‘ t helpful if you do it but hurt yourself.
Call for help. Call the police or some other first-aid services immediately if you believe someone is seriously injured. If you are the only person on the scene, try to restart the patient,s breath before calling for help. Do not leave the victim alone.
Care for the person. Care for someone who has just gone through serious hardness. Remember to stay calm, encourage him (her) and you should be reassuring. Let the person know that help is on its way and that everything will be all right.
