Many junior 3 students across China recently took the PE test. PE has been more and more important in senior high school entrance examination(中考). Many students have been training hard for it.

Gong Siyu from Sichuan is in eighth grade. She went to an after-school training class. “Since seventh grade, I’ve practised every Saturday evening for two hours, doing Australian pull-ups(斜身引体向上), an 800-meter run and basketball,” she said. In 2024, when Gong takes the test, the PE test will be 60 points(分)in senior high school entrance examination.

“I think it’s a good thing,” Gong said. “Health is important, and by preparing for the test, we get a chance to exercise and relax.”

However, not all students agree with Gong Siyu. Liu Jiawei from Jilin will take the test soon. He often feels tired from practicing every day. “I am not a sportsman. I can’t run fast,” Liu said, “In a simulated(模)PE test, I got only 20 points. This will largely lower my score in the senior high school entrance examination.”

But he also pointed out the advantage of the PE test. “In the past our teachers used our PE classes for other subjects, such as math, but now they are not taking away our PE classes anymore!”
