Chinese mythological creatures(神兽) have appeared in the Fantastic Beasts movie series.

In the second Fantastic Beasts movie, audiences enjoyed watching the zouwu, a creature from The Classic of Mountains and Seas. In the third Fantastic Beasts movie, The Secrets of Dumbledore, it’s the qilin’s time to shine. The qilin in the magical world is a very rare creature, only found in East China.

“With a head like a dragon and a body like a deer or horse, the qilin is seen as a gentle creature in Chinese culture. It can tell between good and evil and can even bring luck” said China Daily. There are ancient court stories of court trials(法庭审判)based on the qilin’s knowledge of whether a person was good or evil.

In English, the qilin is sometimes called the “Chinese unicorn(独角兽)” in the West. This mythical horse-like creature has one horn on its head. It is said that a unicorn’s horn or tears can heal deadly injuries, noted the website Unicorn Yard.

There are other mythical creatures that crisscross (交错于)cultures, too. In Chinese culture, the phoenix is very important. It represents luck and is the “king of birds”. In the West, it symbolizes immortality and rebirth, rising from the ashes of a fire.

Although they look alike, dragons in China and the West are very different beasts. The dragon is a respected creature in China, symbolizing good luck. But in the West, they represent evil, greed and destruction, said the website Top China Travel.

【推荐1】Everyone knows that fish is good for health.     1     But it seems that many people don’t cook fish at home. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult.     2     This passage is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.

3     Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh.     4     When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the fridge if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two. Frozen fish isn’t as delicious as the fresh one.

5     The easiest is to steam it. First, clean it and season it with your choice of spices(调料). Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8 to 10 minutes if it weighs about one pound.(A larger one will take more time.) Then, it’s ready to serve.

A.Do not buy it.
B.It just requires a little knowledge.
C.When buying fish, you should first smell it.
D.There are many common methods used to cook fish.
E.The fats in fish are thought to help prevent heart disease.

①Microplastics(微塑料) are one of the largest environmental problems we face. Most microplastics come from larger pieces of plastic as they break apart. They do great harm to the environment as well as the health of animals and humans.

②However, it is really hard to clean up microplastics. They are small bits of plastic less than 5mm long. Because of their size, they are difficult to clean up. This is especially true for microplastics in the ocean. Besides, they are nearly everywhere. They’ve been found in our oceans, on the top of mountains, in some of the food we eat and even in the stomachs of some ocean animals. What should we do about microplastics?

③The good news is that scientists at Sichuan University in southwestern China have made great progress in dealing with microplastics.

④A kind of small robotic fish has been invented to help deal with the microplastics in water. They are programmed to make their way through water collecting microplastics as they go. Though these swimmers are only 15 mm long, they can travel very quickly as they clean. Wang Yuyan, a member of Sichan University’s research team said the robotic fish could be controlled by light. As they swim along, any nearby microplastics get drawn towards them and stick to them.

⑤Another special thing about the robotic fish is that both their shape and the material they are made out of are inspired by ocean life. The team use the material from the inside of shells(贝壳) to make their robotic fish. As well as attracting microplastics, the material can even heal(自愈) itself after being cut.

⑥Now that the team has shown that their idea works, they are going to keep working on it. The scientists hope that their tiny fish-shaped robots will be able to help deal with this global problem. They hope in the future they can create new kinds of robotic fish that can work in deeper waters and collect more microplastics.

A.They are about 5 mm long.
B.They can go to the deep water to clean up the microplastics.
C.They are able to heal their cut.
