The Tang Dynasty (618—907) was a golden age in Chinese history when art and culture, especially poems were highly developed. In Complete Tang Poems, about 48,900 poems by over 2,200 poets were collected. Li Bai and Du Fu are the most famous among them and many of their poems are well-known at home and abroad even today.
Li Bai was a romantic (浪漫的) poet during the Tang Dynasty. He was regarded, along with Du Fu, as one of the two greatest poets in Chinese history. He got inspirations (灵感) to write poems not from the reality but by imagining. Today we know about 1,100 of his poems, many of which are about everyday topics, such as nature, love, and friendship.
Du Fu was a master of all the poetic forms of his time. He showed his worries over the country and the life of the poor people. Many of his poems describe the hard realities (现实) of war, dying people living next to rich rulers… So his poems are a mirror (镜子) of the society of the Tang Dynasty.
Poems in the Tang Dynasty are the most famous and central part in cultural history with greatest achievements. Tang poems belong to metrical verse (格律诗) marked by strict rules. There are two main forms of Tang poems. Jueju is a poem of four lines and lüshi has eight lines, and both of them include five or seven characters in one line. They are the two main forms of Tang poems.
Tang poems have greatly and deeply influenced Chinese culture. Though created over 1,000 years ago, many of the poems are still widely spread today.

French
French people are often seen as romantic and outgoing people with a great love for life, food and wine. They are good at singing and dancing.
Chinese
Chinese are friendly people who are hard-working. They are polite because they are careful about “saving face” when dealing with other people.
Australians
Australians are merry people who spend a lot of time outdoors. They enjoy a slower life. They laugh a lot but sometimes people think they are loud and rude.
Germans
Germans are often described as being serious and careful. They are hard workers and pay a lot of attention to details. However, sometimes people say Germans have no sense of humour.
All these national types can be true for some people, but very wrong for others. For example, you might meet a German who is a confident singer with a great sense of humour, or an Australian who is shy and quiet.

There is a saying, “He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.” It describes the big challenge of making a journey to the Great Wall. It also tells people not to give up. British brothers James and Thomas Lindesay, aged 28 and 21, know the saying very well. And last year, the two brothers spent months running along the Great Wall.
The pair set off from the Jiayuguan in Gansu Province on July 15. It took the two 131 days of running and walking along the main west-to-east length of the Great Wall to reach the Shanhaiguan on November 22. Their Great Wall journey covered 3,263 kilometers. They are the first known brothers, and Thomas the youngest person, to succeed in running the wall in one journey.
The two brothers’ love for the Great Wall is from their father, William Lindesay. William once ran along the wall 35 years ago. He has devoted (奉献) more than 30 years of his life to visiting, studying and protecting the wall. And his action influenced his two sons. They spent most of their weekend’s walking, taking photos and picking up rubbish from the Great Wall.
Compared to their father’s journey, the brothers’ trip was helped by advanced (先进的) tools like GPS watches and digital maps. However, it was still not easy for the two to do that. They had to go through bad weather and even illnesses. Finally, they completed their trip.
This experience gave the brothers a deeper understanding of the Great Wall and the history behind it. For the two, it is not enough to just go to the Great Wall; they must also love and protect it.

Many countries all over the world have National Parks. There are about 7,000 National Parks around the world. Most of them protect natural settings as well as the plants and animals that live there, but a few are in towns and cities.
Are National Parks in England the same as those in other countries?
Many National Parks around the world cover large areas of land where nobody lives, but in England most of the countryside within them is useful for farming and other activities. As a result, National Parks in England include places where people live and work, as well as wild and beautiful areas where there is little sign or human life.
Why do visitors go to the National Parks?
There are plenty of activities to do in all of the National Parks in England. Visitors can walk or cycle, and many of the parks organize activities for families.
Are there any problems in the National Parks?
There are about 110 million visitors to the parks every year, bringing many benefits to the areas but creating problems too. Many popular towns and villages can be swamped(充斥)by visitors. This results in overcrowded car parks and roads choked(堵塞)with traffic. Life can be difficult for people who live there, as more and more gift shops and cafes are opened instead of those everyday shops; in popular areas, house prices can become too high for local people making it hard for them to stay in the area.
Another major problem is litter. In the parks it is a particular(特别的)danger to animals. Broken glass can also cause fires by focusing the rays of the sun. When these start in wild places, they are much harder to control and can damage(毁坏)large areas very quickly.
How can people help?
All National Parks in England promote(倡导)the Countryside Code, which tells people how to take care of their environment. If visitors follow these rules, the National Parks will be protected and continue to give pleasure to many people for a long time.
