People around the word felt excited on the night of April 10, 2019. For the first time in history, people saw a photo of a black hole. The photo became popular at once. But do you know it has something to do with a computer scientist Katie Bouman. Without her, there won’t be this photo.
Black holes are very far from us, so it is very difficult to take photos of them. It’s like taking a photo of an orange that is on the moon. Many scientists had tried. However, none of them succeeded.
These failures didn’t stop Bouman from trying. Several years ago, she started working on a special computer program. During the part years, she has improved the program many times. Finally, it turned telescope data (望远镜数据) into a photo of a black hole.
Bouman has received lots of praise because of her work. The young woman, however, is modest. She said the success mainly depends on her team. “None of us could do it alone,” she said.
Would you like to make history as Bouman did? Set a goal for yourself and work hard at it. Maybe you will make it come true in the future.

We have day and night because the earth keeps turning all the time. When our part of the earth turns to the sun, it is day. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, it is night.
Just because the moon is closer to the earth than the sun, it looks much bigger than the sun. Big things look smaller when they are further, and small things also look bigger when they are nearer.
The sun is big enough to give out very strong light. The moon can’t give any light at all, but it looks quite bright, too. Why? In fact, the light from the moon comes from the sun. The moon looks much bigger and brighter than the stars, but actually the stars are much bigger and brighter than the moon. They look smaller than the moon also because they’re further away from the earth than the moon.
We all know that at 9:00 a. m. on October 15th, 2003, Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei went to space. He stayed there for 21 hours. It was the first time for Chinese to get into space. Then in the following years, more and more people get into space. I hope I will go to space one day.

The process could provide a major source of oxygen for humans taking part in moon exploration activities in the future. Researchers from the European Space Agency(ESA)carried out the experiments and reported their results in a study.
The team says ESA’s experimental “plant” was able to successfully produce oxygen from simulated moon dust. The dust is part of a material known as regolith, which holds about 45 percent oxygen. However, the oxygen’s form is very strange, so it is hard to produce.
ESA’s long -term goal is to design an oxygen -producing “pilot plant” to work fulltime on the moon. Beth Lomax of the University of Glasgow was a lead researcher on the project. “Being able to get oxygen from resources found on the moon would certainly be hugely useful for future lunar settlers,” she said.
The researchers reported that the process also produced some usable metal materials. ESA researcher Alexandre said the finding that a number of metals are left behind was an important discovery.
ESA and the U. S. space agency NASA are both working on plans to return human beings to the moon. NASA has set a goal for 2024, with the aim to keep humans on the moon for long periods.

However, one of the most famous scientists has a very dark warning for us about this type of technology.
“The development of full artificial intelligence could lead to the end of the human race,” said Professor Stephen Hawking to the BBC.
Hawking is a well-known British Physicist and writer of bestselling science book A Brief History of Time. This warning came from a serious disease called ALS; he needs an AI computer to communicate. The computer learns how Hawking thinks and suggests the words he may want to use next.
This is a basic type of AI, which is very useful, yet Hawking fears the possibility of creating technology that can match or go beyond human intelligence. And it’s easy to imagine how terrible things may be. Many TV shows and films display big, killer machines that are far cleverer than us. “Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution(进化), couldn’t compete, ” said Hawking.
But not every scientist is pessimistic(悲观的)about AI technology. “I believe we will remain in charge of(掌控) the technology. “ The potential(潜力)of it to solve many of the world problems will be realized.” In what direction do you think AI is going? Should we be hopeful or fearful?

The most obvious(明显的) effect of not having enough sleep is to make us weaker and it makes it harder to fight illness. In other words, people who do not sleep enough are more likely to get sick or ill.
Studies in the USA have found that 60 percent of the adults often have sleep problems. Among them, more than 20 percent say that they feel sleepy in the daytime and that makes their lives difficult. At least 40 million people in the USA suffer from sleep problems that need treatment, but very few of them actually go to a doctor about it.
So what are the things that affect sleep? Well, firstly, there is noise. If there are noises such as barking dogs, dripping(滴水) taps or loud music, you will probably find it difficult to sleep. What is interesting is that women seem to notice more than men, while young children do not notice noise so much as adults.
If you are sitting on a chair, you will find it very difficult to sleep. But you will probably have no problem falling asleep if you are on a bed. This is another thing that affects sleep. We need to be horizontal and we need to have enough space.
A third thing affecting sleep is temperature. You may have noticed that you have difficulty sleeping if it is very hot or cold.
Altitude can change the way we sleep as well. If you are at an altitude of over 4,000m, you need to breathe differently because you don’t have as much oxygen. It will take you about two weeks to get used to this.
If you want to sleep well, please do not exercise before you go to bed or drink coffee. We hope this helps. Sleep well!

Drink a small amount of water every hour. If you find a small piece of land where the earth is wet, dig deep to look for water. Another method of getting water is to cover a green plant with a plastic bag. As it breathes, the water vapor(蒸汽)will be collected inside the bag. Little by little, you can collect enough water to drink.
Plan to travel at night and sleep during the day, if you find you have to survive in the desert for a period of time. If you can find any shade in the desert, use it as a shelter(庇护所)to protect you from the strong sunlight.
Wear clothing in light color. It may seem like you'll be cooler if you wear that kind of clothes, which actually helps your body to become cool and helps protect you from sunburn.
Prepare to signal planes passing overhead if you are caught in the desert. During the day, keep a smoky fire burning and at night, a bright, clean burning one. Spell out the word SOS on the ground as large as you can using whatever materials you can find. In this way, you are more likely to be saved.
1. Which is a good way to get water in the desert?A.To put the rocks together. |

On Feb 22th, 2018, Wu won the gold medal in the man’s short-track 500-metre race. He set a new world record with a time of 39.584 seconds. He also became the first Chinese man to take home an Olympic short-track gold medal. BBC said Wu’s win was “flawless”, because he was much faster than all of the other skaters.
“I didn’t give them a chance and I kept my speed from the start,” he told the media after the match.
But China’s short-track teams didn’t do well in general at the Games. Chinese skaters in the woman’s 500 meters, 3000-meter relay and man’s 1500 meters all failed to take home the gold. Wu was China’s biggest hope, which put a lot of pressure on him. But he proved himself with his great performance.
Wu is now known as a highly talented skater. But things were not always that way. When Wu joined the national team in 2010, he was seen as almost “nothing” compared to gifted skaters like Zhou Yang and Fan Kexin, as his coaches said at the time. Their comments made him quite upset. But as the saying goes, “Winners never quit and quitters never win”, Wu didn’t want to give up and worked as hard as he could. He practiced skating all year round. He even didn’t return to his hometown for the holidays for 10 years. “I believe in myself,” he told the media after his match at the Olympics.
