【推荐1】There are two brothers. The elder brother is five years old and the younger brother is one year younger than him. It’s the age of having a strong thirst(渴望)for knowledge and the world around them.
One day when they were playing in the bedroom, they thought it was too dark inside, because the curtains(窗帘)were drawn and the windows were closed. They wanted to see the bright sunshine outside. The two brothers said to each other, “We can bring in the sunshine in a bottle.” So, they took a bottle and went up to the balcony(阳台)to collect sunshine. Soon the bottle was warm to touch. Thinking the bottle was full, they went back into the house. When they entered the room, it was still dark. They changed it for a bigger one. The result was the same. After changing a lot of bottles again and again, there was still no sunshine in the room.
Their mother saw their strange behaviors and knew what they were doing. She smiled and said, “As long as the curtains are drawn back and the windows are opened, the sunshine will naturally come in. Why do you use the bottles?”
We often make the same mistakes as they do. We put ourselves in the darkness of failure, but forget that as long as our hearts open, the sunshine of success will drive the darkness away.

Happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big house may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money, it is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chance to challenge yourself. ________ you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

Do you know all birds protect themselves by listening and watching out for danger? At the smallest sign of it, they will fly away. Birds that cannot fly are often able to swim fast, or run quickly. Some birds make themselves look bigger and more dangerous by fluffing(抖松) their feathers.
Another important protection for many birds is their colors. Their feathers often have colors that match the things around their nests. Some birds change colors with the seasons. In winter they are white to match the snow. In summer they are brown to match the ground.
People sometimes kill the birds without meaning to. When people cut down forests to build houses and factories, they destroy the homes and food of birds. If the birds have nowhere else to go and nothing to eat, they will die out.
Pollution may cause some birds to die. Birds that eat fish from polluted water get poison in their bodies. Then they cannot lay healthy eggs. New birds can’t be born.
Now people protect birds by passing the laws to control hunting and pollution, by setting up some special parks where all the birds are safe from hunters, and by teaching people to care about birds rather than kill them.

A group of wild Asian elephants is coming near Kunming, Yunnan Province, after travelling on a 500-km on-foot journey. (A) No one knows why the elephants travel all the way from their home. The government has reminded the people of Kunming to be careful.
There were 16 elephants in the group at first, which left their home last year to travel in nearby places. One adult elephant dropped out and two were born in the journey. In April the 17-member group turned north to visit Yuxi. Another two adults left the group for home while the rest continued to travel north.
On Monday, the endangered animals were seen in Hongta, where the government set up a center to lead their movements 24 hours a day and stop them from coming into cities. Old George selected(挑选)his food in the supermarket more carefully than NASA chose its astronauts(宇航员).When he left the cashier, he was happy to think that he saved 80 cents today.

Li Ming was showing his collected of radio controlled car. There were a lot of people in the playground watching him send the car racing around, turning, and going fast. Some lucky people had a chance to control the cars, but they did not have Li Ming’s skill.

At the end of the hall, we found Zhao Feng and Shen Xue. Their hobby is writing, and a little book of their stories has just come out. Their friend Yang Lei has added pictures and the book looks very nice. They were selling a lot of them and looked very happy.
Outside a the back, Li Hua was showing his unusual hobby:glass-blowing. You can watch him blow air into hot glass and make lovely shapes with many different colors. On Saturday he was making glasses and people were buying them as fast as he made them.
