A giant panda is a kind of bear. It has a white face with black patches (块) around the eyes. It also has black ears, shoulders and legs. The rest of its body is white.

Pandas always choose bamboo forests as their homes. They live high up in the mountains of Southwest China, such as Ya’an and Pingwu in Sichuan Province.

How about their food? Pandas in the wild usually eat bamboo. In zoos, their menu includes bamboo, apples and carrots. A giant panda can eat as much as 30 kilos of bamboo a day. They need to eat a lot to stay healthy, so they spend more than 12 hours a day eating.

Sadly, giant pandas face serious problems in the wild. Losing homes is the most worrying, because some people are cutting down bamboo forests. Besides, it’s very difficult for pandas to have babies, and many baby pandas die when they are very young.

So we should take action right away. Here are some ideas. First, help pandas have more babies. Second, build more panda reserves (保护区). Third, make laws to protect pandas.

A study shows that it is important to have positive (积极的) feelings in our daily life. Compared with some unhappy people, those who are always pleased and relaxed are less likely (可能地) to suffer from colds according to the study. The researchers from New York University said, “Being happy helps the body prevent diseases.”

“It seems that positive feelings can usually reduce the danger of illness,” said the chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.

In his earlier study, Cohen found that people who were cheerful caught colds less often. And they seldom told their doctors that they felt uncomfortable.

In this study, Cohen's team interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. In this period, they told the researchers about their happy or sad feelings every day. Two weeks later, all of them were made to catch colds by doctors, and they had to stay alone in a room for six days.

The result showed that each in the study had the same chance to fall ill. But people who were lively and relaxed said they felt happy when doing the research. Their illness was less serious and lasted for a shorter time.

Cohen believes that if people have positive feelings, their body may produce a kind of chemical that helps beat illness. So if you care about your health, please look at the bright side and make yourself happy all the time.

【推荐2】Bashert is a gentle(温柔的), white dog. When her owner is sad, she licks him to make him happy. When her owner feels upset, she licks him again to encourage him.

Animals like Bashert play an important part in people’s lives. Whether it is a dog, a cat or a fish, people always enjoy their companionship (陪伴). But do you know that people also love animals for other reasons?

When staying with animals, people can relax, because compared to the human world, the animal world seems to be simpler. For example, when children are with their pets, they can forget grades and class performance. What they feel is warmth and acceptance without any conditions.

Animals, especially pets, also teach people to learn responsibility (责任). Besides feeding and cleaning them, you also need to care for them. When they are sick, take them to an animal hospital. When they feel lonely, just play with them for a while. When they get old, you should spend time with them and let them know that you will always love them. Such a caring heart tells you to treat people in a nice way. Then, you will find yourself a much beloved person.

Everyone worries. But how do you deal with your worries? Whether your worries are big or small, you can take these three steps to deal with your worries:

1.Try to find out what you’re worried about

Sometimes, you may know what you’re worried about. Other times, you might not. Try to find it out first; if you can’t, you can ask for help.

2.Think of ways to make it better

There is always something you can do to help you feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problem.

Grades at school are often top worries for kids. If you’re worried about grades, ask yourself these questions:

Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?

How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?

Do I have a good place to do my homework?

Have I tried different ways of studying?

If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do: write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her, etc. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose the one that get your friend back.

3.Ask for help

When you’re worried, it can help to find someone to talk to. You can ask your parents, friends, or teachers for help.
