On March 18, 2022, the 1915 Canakkale Bridge was opened in Turkey. The country of Turkey is mainly in Asia, but part of it lies in Europe. The Dardanelles Strait separates the two parts. The new bridge crosses the Dardanelles Strait, connecting Europe and Asia.
The bridge sets a new record for the world’s longest suspension bridge (悬索桥), whose largest section (段) is 2,023 meters long. It is about 33 meters longer than that of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the earlier record holder.
The bridge’s name is related to an important Turkey’s 1915 victory against England and France during the World War I in the Dardanelles Strait. Besides, the bridge also contains several special numbers. Its towers are 318 meters high and the bridge was opened on March 18 (3/18). Those numbers mark the day that Turkey normally honors soldiers killed during the war.
Building the bridge wasn’t easy. It took five years and cost about $2.7 billion. But the opening of the bridge will make a contribution to Turkey’s economic development—it will help Turkey save up to $458 million a year, because trips crossing the Dardanelles Strait will be using far less fuel and polluting much less. People can drive across the Strait in about six minutes. Before the bridge, the fastest way to cross the Strait was by boat. The trip was about an hour, but waiting to get on and off the boat could take hours longer.
1. What places does the 1915 Canakkale Bridge connect?2. How long is the largest section of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge?
3. Why did the bridge open on March 18?
4. How much did people spend building the bridge?
5. Was the fastest way to cross the Strait by boat after the bridge was built?

There are 24 solar terms (节气) in China, and the Grain Rain(谷雨) is one of them. It falls on April 19 this year.

But this is a great time for planting crops. If you miss the time for planting during the Grain Rain, you will feel sorry later. So maybe you can try to plant some flowers or vegetables in your garden. When the spring rain falls, farmers begin to grow crops (庄稼). Farmers often say, “Spring rain is as precious (珍贵的) as oil.” It brings farmers hope for a good year ahead.
There are also many interesting customs during the Grain Rain. In the northern part of China, people like to eat Chinese toon (椿芽) mixed with eggs. Excellent English food at the Country House.
Last Saturday night, my family and I ate at the Country House.
The Country House serves traditional English food, we paid about 15 to 20 pounds a person to eat there.
The food was wonderful. The fish pie reminded me of my grandma. She used to cook it for me. I also had some fish and chips, and it was fantastic.
The waiters were polite, but a little slow. We were seated at 7 p.m., but we did not receive our food until 7:40 p.m.
I would certainly recommend the Country House for good, traditional English food. However, you should get there early and be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting for your food.

3. Who used to cook the fish pie for Doris?

Museums in China keep up with young people with fresh experience
For Liu Ziqi, an eight-year-old museum lover in Beijing, this winter vacation has proved a rather busy one, as she made a to-go list for newly opened exhibitions in the Chinese capital. During the seven day Spring Festival holiday starting from Jan. 21, museums in Beijing received 1. 01 million visits, up 34 percent year on year, according to Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau. Like Liu, more and more young people, some not necessarily big fans of museums, choose to spend some of their spare time in a museum.
COLLABORATIONS(合作)
Collaborations between museums and arts organizations help the young people get closer to the relics(文物)by telling the stories behind them.
“Harmonious Co-existence,” the first exhibition held jointly by the two museums in recent years is a great example. Including over 400 exhibits, from picture scrolls depicting ancient Chinese legends to copies of philosophical, classics, it elaborates on the historical origins of the concepts of “harmony” and “unity” which are rooted in the Chinese culture.
COMMUNICATION
“More and more visitors began asking questions,” Bai Xuesong, a professional museum guide at Xi’an Beilin Museum said, adding that this shows a change in the relationship between guides and visitors-from “teaching” to communication and learning.
New technologies including AI and VR also enabled museums in China to make a change from simply showing artifacts to actively engaging with visitors.
“I saw the roof decorations for the Tang Dynasty palace,” said Liu. “It feels like traveling back to the Tang Dynasty. Now I feel closer to history. ”
INTEGRATIONS(整合)
“For young people, intellectual and cultural activities are becoming an important part of their lives,” said Jin Jiangbo, vice president of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, explaining reasons behind people’s growing interest in museums.
Such integrations are changing museums from simply places of public cultural education to public service centers, meeting the needs of the young people who want to know more about different kinds of culture.
The museums are changing their forms to attract more people. Now matter how they change, there’s one thing that won’t change: Behind the popularity is people’s positive attitude toward the country’s development and their understanding of and growing confidence in national culture.
