Do you ever feel like you are just running from one activity to another? In school do you rush from one subject to another? When things happen so fast it is easy to get lost of what you are doing or learning. It is important to stop yourself every now and then to think about what you’ve been doing or learning.
Self -reflection (反省) means slowing down and calming (使平静) yourself including calming your mind. By being calm and going slowly you give your brain a chance to think about what it has already received. Some people like to do these self-reflections only in their mind. Others keep a diary or written notes. Either method works depending on your own personal learning. You can follow the step to do self-reflection.
First, choose the proper time to do it. School textbooks are divided into units of study. This makes it easier for someone to begin self reflection. Look for time when you complete a unit of study. Sometimes you know the unit is over because there is some kind of test. Use these natural breaks to stop and do self reflection.
Then, find a quiet place and take out paper or your reflection diary. Write down some notes on the new things that you learned in the unit. Let your mind think about the notes you have written and make some connections.
Finally, think about things that you are not sure of. Maybe you learned a new way to work out a math problem but you’re not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to look for answers the next time you are working with the same topic.
Self reflection is important for a successful student. If you have never taken the time to do self reflection try it now.

What is even more interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create that first impression in about three seconds. The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.
But just as in face-to-face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line.
For anything you’re about to send, ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread.
If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so. You should either ignore (忽略) it; or use your chat software to block their messages.
Everyone was new to the network once. Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it.

I, Li Bai, sit aboard a ship about to go When suddenly on shore your farewell songs o’er flow However deep the Lake of Peach Blossoms (桃花) may be It is not so deep, Wang Lun! As your love for me | A Time to Talk (By Robert Frost) When a friend calls to me from the road And slows his horse to a meaning walk, I don’t stand still and look around. I push my hoe in the ground, Blade (锄头)-end up and five feet tall And I go up to the stone wall For a friendly visit. |
Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off. US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend’s visit when he was working. Li made a comparison. His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing should get in the way of spending time with friends. The language is simple but sincere (真诚的).

Take the sentence “How do you do?” as an example, you look up each word in the dictionary, one at a time, what is your translation? It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Languages do not just have different sounds. They are different in many ways. It's important to master the rules for word order in the study of English, too. If the speaker puts words in a wrong order, the listener can't understand the speaker's sentence easily. Sometimes when the order of words in an English sentence is changed, the meaning of the sentence changes. Bat sometimes the order is changed; the meaning of the sentence doesn't change. Let's see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.
“She only likes apples.” “Only she likes apples.”
“I have seen the film already.” “I have already seen the film.”
When you are learning English, you must do your best to get the spirit of the language and use it as the native speaker does.
