In the 2024 Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会), which program impressed (使……印象深刻) you most? Maybe you will say 《山河诗长安》. And it’s also my favorite program. I was shocked by the scene that thousands of people recite(朗诵) a poem by Li Bai together. Li Bai, who is also called “immortal poet (诗仙) ” is one of the greatest poets in the Tang Dynasty. Most of his poems were produced in the rise and fall period of the Tang Dynasty. Many people think he is romantic (浪漫的) and free, just like an immortal (神仙). However, in the Chinese cartoon movie《长安三万里》, we see a different Li Bai.
In the movie, Li dreams about being an officer. But he faces challenges after challenges. He can’t take keju (科举) because of his family. Later, he makes a mistake and is banished (流放). He has difficulties and problems just like every one of us.
However, his poems give us inspiration and confidence (自信), especially when we are in hard times. When he enjoyed nature, he said, “Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high; As if the silver river fell from the blue sky (飞流直下三千尺,疑是银河落九天).” When he had a setback (挫折), he said, “Heaven has made us talents; we’re not made in vain. A thousand gold coins spent, more will turn up again (天生我材必有用,千金散尽还复来).”
Li Bai might not be as perfect as we think. But it doesn’t really matter. Maybe we should thank his imperfect life, or we will lose a great poet in the world. As long as his poems are here with us, he is always the “immortal” in our hearts.

He is Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi. This year marks the 130 anniversary of his birth.People in different parts of China commemorated(纪念)Tao by visiting his memorial halls or holding meetings to reflect on his thoughts on education.
Born in Anhui province, China, 1891, Tao studied at Columbia University, US, in 1914.
There he studied educational philosophy under the guidance of John Dewey, an American philosopher and educational reformer(改革家).
But when Tao returned to China in 1917 and began his own career as an educator, he did not blindly copy Dewey’s education method or theories.
For Tao, education is an active process in real—life experiences rather than one of telling and being told.He proposed “unity(融合) of teaching, learning, and reflective acting”.
Apart from reforming education methods, Tao also tried his best to promote mass education.(推进大众教育)
After conducting surveys in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai in 1921, Tao was surprised to learn that the rate of urban illiteracy (文盲) in China went beyond 70 percent. To solve the problem, Tao organized young workers and farmers to study while working. To deal with the lack of teachers and money, in 1927, Tao set up Xiaozhuang Normal college(晓庄师范学院) in the northern suburbs(郊 区) of Nanjing to train teachers and educators, most of whom became teachers at rural schools.
Even during the anti—Japanese war, Tao never forgot his ambition. He set up Yucai Middle School in the suburbs of Chongqing and offer free education to refuge children and children of the Communist Party of China members.
Maybe Tao’s motto is the best explanation for his life, “Giving a whole heart, yet taking nothing in return, not even a leaf of grass.”

Captain Sir Thomas Moore (April 30, 1920 — February 2, 2021), more popularly known as Captain Tom, was a British Army officer and fundraiser who made international headlines in 2020 when he raised money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic. The English army captain raised a large amount of money for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) by walking in his garden. He also raised a lot of excitement and good feelings.
Captain Tom had been very impressed by the efforts of the health care workers of the NHS. They risked their lives to help patients with COVID-19. So he decided to raise money to support them by walking around his garden. At first, his plan was just to complete 100 laps. He hoped to raise $1,000. In less than 24 hours, he had reached his goal. Shocked by his success, the captain set a new goal of raising $100,000 by his 100th birthday.
Interest in his efforts grew quickly as people learned about the project. By the time the captain finished his 100th lap, $14 million had been raised. Things didn’t stop there. Captain Tom promised to keep walking as long as people would keep giving money, and people kept giving money.
Though his age was a part of what made Captain Tom successful, his positive messages really brought hope to many people. “Remember, tomorrow is a good day,” he said.
Captain Tom had the Guinness World Record — the most money raised by an individual (个人) through a charity walk. He raised $29 million. They need to understand what is going on with their bodies, how to deal with those changes and how to start taking responsibility(责任)for themselves.
A young person may begin puberty at 8,(A)while another may start puberty after 14 or 15. In general, girls start puberty two years before boys do. For both girls and boys, it is usually complete by the age of 18.
During these years, the body develops in many ways.(B)感受也会迅速地改变。
Teenage boys at this stage often begin to take unnecessary risks. Their focus is(C)_______ having fun and being accepted by others. They need to think before they act and make good decisions for themselves.
A girl’s personality often does not develop in the same way(D)_______ a boy’s. Teenage girls sometimes lose confidence in themselves. They are no longer(E)certain about their own feelings. Yet they are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, teenage girls should be encouraged to(F)talk about things with trusted adults.

Playing is really important for children. When they are playing, they feel happy and exciting, and in doing this, they can learn more from playing. But if children are limited to play, and ordered to study all day, their brains are so tired after study. They won’t have full imaginations.
Playing is serious business for children. In fact, it’s what they do best! Ask them why they do it, and kids will probably say, “Because it’s fun!” But it’s much more than that! It’s also good for them.
Studies show that even the newborn babies begin learning through play. They use their five senses to get to know their new world. Touching allows them to discover how different things feel. Brightly colored toys and clothing help develop a baby’s sense of sight. They learn social skills through games like “peekaboo”(躲猫猫). Babies quickly discover how to make those around them laugh and smile. When small children choose which toys to play with, they begin developing confidence and their abilities in making decisions.
Children love toys that allow them to use their imagination. Sometimes an empty box is more fun than a high-tech toy. That’s because a box can become anything a child imagines it to be.
Playing doesn’t become any less important once children start school. Many valuable lessons about life are learned on the school playground. Kids learn how to share, take turns and play by the rules.
Health officials give another good reason for why children should play. Kids need the exercise, and playing is the most natural way to get it. The average students spends several hours a day in front of TV or computer screen. Playing outside is much healthier. And studies show that active children get better marks, too.
Believe it or not, playing is important for adults, too. More and more companies are realizing the value of playful work environment. Some companies, for example, encourage its employees to relax their minds and bodies through playing. The companies provide its workers with a game room, a pool and other fun areas. They believe playful employees are more creative. Who knows? Maybe the idea for the animated film “Cats” started out in the game room.

Each and every year, during Chongyang Festival, citizens of China celebrate the elders in their families and communities. It’s a special tradition which is rooted in the deep value that Chinese culture places on honoring their elders.
Sadly, many of our aging population are seniors without sons, daughters or grandchildren to visit. While they may have great friends, they no doubt miss the tender and loving relationships unique to families. To fill this void(空虚), many volunteers turned up on October 28 at nursing homes around the country in order to spend time with the residents. In some cases, they performed humble(谦逊的) gestures of kindness, such as combing their hair or washing their feet.
While the kind acts were appreciated, one embarrassing story out of Anhui province raised a valuable question. Reportedly, one old gentleman had his feet washed seven times during the day by different volunteers. Is this genuinely(真诚地) caring for the elderly? Many of the residents at the home said that those gestures do not make them feel cared for at all. Their family members or community volunteers may drop by for a few hours of token time, but soon they disappear back into their busy lives.
There is nothing we can give that is more valuable or appreciated than our time. While you may feel like there is barely enough time to care for your many responsibilities, might it be possible to spare just a moment as you walk home from school to sit with a senior who lives in your community? Just five minutes is not going to prevent you from getting your homework done, but it may totally change a day of loneliness into a day of joy for one old man or woman. Do you live far from your grandparents? Why not pick up the phone and let them know you’ re thinking of them? Or maybe you could remind them of the “good old days” and mail them a short letter. Imagine their surprise and joy!
We live in a complicated(复杂的) and busy world, but kindness and caring is still a very simple thing.
