When I was a boy, I had a big appetite(食欲). I was lucky enough to have my grandma，because she always cooked delicious food for me. At that time, I lived at school. I could only go back home on vacation. But whenever I got the chance to go back home, I would like to stay in my grandma's home.

When my grandma cooked in the kitchen, I would like to help her. I helped her wash vegetables, clean dishes and so on. Then I set the table and waited for her to eat together. It was really a warm memory (回忆) for me.

My grandma always tried to create new dishes. Every time after she cooked a new dish，she would let me try first. Then she would wait for my comments（评论）for the dish. After I told her how I liked the dish, she would write down some notes as soon as she could on a small notebook.

Here is a story about Peter’s uncle. Peter’s uncle lived in the country. Last year Peter went to stay with him for seven days. Whenever they went for a walk or for a drive in the car and passed by somebody, his uncle waved to the passer-by. Peter was surprised and said, “Uncle George, you seem to know everybody here. Where did you meet them all?”

“Then why do you wave to them?” asked Peter.

“Well, Peter,” said his uncle, “When I wave to someone who knows me, he is pleased. He continued his journey with a happier heart. Why did he wave to me?’ So he has something to think about during the rest of his journey and that makes his journey seem shorter. So I make everybody happy.”

A well-known film director

One of the most well-known directors of our time is Stephen Spielberg. He was born in Cincinnati on 18 December，1946.His father was an engineer and his mother was a performing pianist. His sister，Anne Spielberg，became a screenwriter who wrote the stories for many famous films.

Stephen had always wanted to be a director ever since he was a young boy. When he was just 13 years old，he made a 40-minute film. It won a local competition. Three years later，he produced a film called Firelight，which made one hundred dollars' profit（利润）at the cinema in his hometown. Many of the ideas from this film were later used for one of his most famous films called Close Encounters of the Third Kind. When he was 18 years old，he wanted to go to film school so that he could improve his skills and become an even better director. Unluckily，he was unsuccessful in getting a place at this school so he went to a university in California to study English. Even though he had failed to get into the school he wanted to go to，he didn't let this stop him following his dream to become a great director.

Stephen Spielberg has directed many films since his first major film in 1976.He now owns many different businesses，most of which are involved in（涉及）the film industry.

Looking back at the junior high school life, I had an unforgettable learning experience. As an exchange student, I studied in France for two years. I remembered the first time I took a class in the chemistry lab, I was surprised to find that students were fully “armed”. Everyone was wearing goggles (护目镜) and gloves. It seemed that keeping safe is important for science lab class.

My chemistry teacher Mrs. Louise often gave us the instruction paper the night before the lab class and let us read it. In the class, she first went over the steps and then divided us into groups of two to do the experiments (实验). What was special was that for every lab class, Mrs. Louise changed everyone’s lab partners to make them work with different classmates.

The class was often flied with laughter and screams (尖叫) . We once tried to burn the chemicals and watch the colors of the flames (火焰). Different chemicals produced different colors of flames, including bright orange and dark green. Many students were surprised. “Wow! That’s so beautiful!” they screamed. Then they excitedly took pictures, posted them online and sent them to their friends. Mrs. Louise didn’t get angry with us at all for our “noises”. She herself even took photos with us!

After finishing an experiment, we had to write a lab report. If we had a big mistake in the experiment, we needed to analyze (分析) why it happened and what we should do to avoid it next. The lab reports were very important. They made up around 25% of our term grade.

He said “Graduation is a time to give thanks, to your parents, your teachers and your friends. I am here to tell you a true story!” Then he told the story of the first day we met. He planned to kill(杀死) himself over the weekend. He talked of how he cleaned out his desk so his mom wouldn’t have to do it later and was carrying all his books home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. “Thankfully, I met Ben and he saved me with his kind heart(心).” Friends are angels (天使) who lift us to our feet when our wings(翅膀) have trouble remembering how to fly.
