Is drinking milk the best way to get calcium (钙)? A new report says it may not be.
“Drink your milk. It’s good for you!” You’re probably heard that many times, and it’s true. Milk has calcium, which is necessary for keeping bones (骨骼) and teeth healthy and strong. The US government (政府) even says that students should drink one cup of milk at each meal.
However, an organization asked the government to take milk off the school lunch menu. The organization says, “Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein (蛋白质), all of which have not been so good for health.” The organization says there are better and healthier ways to get calcium, such as eating beans, broccoli and tofu. “People talk about milk because it is going to help build strong bones.” says Dr. Neal Barnard, the president of the organization, “But drinking milk may not be the best way to get the calcium your body needs.”
Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but there are other ways to improve your bones strength, such as getting plenty of vitamin D and getting an hour’s exercise every day.
Some nutritionists (营养学家) disagree with the idea that milk isn’t important. Keri Gans says, “I don’t think it’s wise to take this drink off the school menu.”
Marion Nestle, a teacher at New York University, says. “It’s true that milk has healthy ingredients. Other foods have the same ingredients. It’s just a kind of food. Drinking too much might be a problem.”

A group of people living in suburb came up with a creative way to garden in small space.
They all love growing vegetables but not everyone could do that when they just had conventional vegetable garden. To solve the problem, they added a movable vegetable patch (小块菜地). They turned an old hospital bed into a garden on wheels. The bed can be raised and lowered so everyone, including people in wheelchairs, can enjoy working in the garden. Their local greengrocer provided some containers, where they planted their vegetables. This perfect garden can be easily wheeled around to follow the sun!
It is a great activity for Michelle, Marianne, Shelly, Jimmy and Ashley, who have a disability and are supported in their homes by people employed by the Department of Human Services. The garden is a joy to everyone and provides the vegetables for a lot of cheap and nutritious meals. “Our garden is coming along well,” says Michelle.
“We’ve been eating lots of salad items lettuce, cucumbers, spring onions. Everyone loves them. Unfortunately, the strawberries were a failure. I think it was a bit too hot in the pots for them. ② First, find a quiet environment in your home or school for studying. In that way, you will always connect the place with studying when you are there, which makes it easier for you to pay attention. Make sure that you will not be interrupted (打扰) there, especially your phone, computer or other electronic products and it can be used for a long time.

Today we can do everything with apps: pay bills, order food and shop for anything. Mobile technology means we can hold the world in our hands. However, when it comes to technology and health care, chances and challenges come together.
Let’s start with the ways to get health care. Telemedicine (远程医疗) can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis and instructions without leaving home.
There are many online patient websites, which have different kinds of interactions (互动) about our health needs. Setting a date with doctors and reading results have been achieved by technology already.
A whole new age of medical care seems possible to come in the future. But every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care?
First, sharing the details of one’s health requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where some of life’s best and worst moments have something to do with doctors. The human touch is also very important for patients and is impossible to be there over the smartphone.
Second, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of terrible stories to form in their minds.
So how does medicine get along well with the new technology age? Some talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems possible that some companies will find a way to explain test results.
But what it will not achieve is the touch and the warmth of human interaction. Patients often need someone to listen to and care about their journey story, which will never be realized through a human-less technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it totally will probably have unexpected effects.
1. According to the passage, how does technology help health care?A.It encourages patients to put their needs online. |
