I am sure you know the story of the turtle (乌龟) and the rabbit. It taught people many lessons. One of these lessons is that people who have all the advantages (the fast-jumping rabbit) can be beaten by those who have nothing but inner (内心的) strength (the slow turtle).

It is true that the race of life, just like the one between the rabbit and the turtle, is often unfair. Some kids have all the luck. They were born healthy and their parents are rich. These kids wear nice clothes and always have much money to spend on anything they like. Many other kids, however, have none of these things. Some of them were even born with disabilities. They have to depend on their inner strength alone.

While many people believe the “rabbits” are always successful, this is not true. In fact, the “turtles”—kids from poor families—have some of the most. important things for success. They are humble (谦逊的) and determined (有决心的). They march forward slowly but with great inner strength.

A student from Tsinghua University shared his personal experience online. Instead of having fun with his classmates outside, he chose to get a part-time job and study hard. He knew there would be plenty of time for fun once he had overcome all of the difficulties. His story may have encouraged “turtles”. The race of life is long. Even if you get off to a slow start, you can easily catch up if you make up your mind to do so.

1. What can we learn from the story of the turtle and the rabbit?
A.One who has advantages can succeed.
B.One who fears nothing can succeed easily.
C.One who has inner strength can get success finally.
D.One who works without rest can get success more easily.
2. Why does the writer say “the race of life is often unfair”?
A.Because everyone wants to win the race.B.Because people are treated differently in life.
C.Because all the people have different dreams.D.Because not everyone’s starting point is the same.
3. Why is a student from Tsinghua University mentioned in the end?
A.To introduce his hard experience to us.
B.To encourage us to enter good universities.
C.To show us the importance of studying in the university.
D.To support the idea that poor students have special things for success.
4. What’s the purpose of writing the text?
A.To advise us to try new things.B.To tell us how to succeed quickly.
C.To show us the power of inner strength.     D. To encourage us to take races.

You may have seen such a photo: with a long white beard and wearing a bamboo hat, an old fisherman stands on a boat. Huang Quande looked like this when tourists took photos with him on the Lijiang River in Guilin, Guangxi. He became very famous on the Internet.     1     Sadly, Huang passed away at the age of 94 on Feb 18.

According to Jimu News, Huang shows the true spirit of the Lijiang River. He was a positive (积极的) and kind man.     2     After he gave up fishing and became a photo model in 2008, he took photos with tourists worldwide.

The image of the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan banknote is not just about one man. Instead, it is a cultural symbol that makes the Guilin landscape (风景) what it is, commented Guangming Daily.

In fact, the different backsides of the fifth series of renminbi banknotes show the most iconic (标志性的) landscapes in the country.     3

For example, on the back of the 5-yuan banknote is Taishan Mountain in Shandong.     4     On the back of the 1-yuan banknote are the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon (三潭映月) in West Lake, Zhejiang. Since ancient times, the location has been a great place for moon watchers during Mid-Autumn Festival. The candlelights (烛光) from the three pagodas (塔) are reflected on the water and look like little moons.

5     Following the banknotes from 1 yuan to 100, Pan Jinyu from Chongqing had a “banknote tour” when he was 21. “I want to finish a ceremonial (有仪式感的) journey and feel the beauty of our country,” Pan told Chongqing Economic Times.

A.Each of them carries its own cultural value.
B.The renminbi pictures have helped make the landscapes even more popular among tourists.
C.In his 90s, Huang could still move his boat with speed.
D.For thousands of years, many emperors would go there and pray (祈祷) for the country’s prosperity (繁荣).
E.Let’s go on a journey to find out where the images on renminbi come from.
F.Many believed the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan renminbi banknote (纸币) was based on (基于) his image (形象).
G.We should save the money.
