What time of day do you feel most alert (清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person? Or does your brain need a few hours to get going? A lot of research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we are best able to perform, according to the Wall Street Journal (华尔街日报).
When it comes to the human brain, many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help speed this up.
But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will rise early and work better early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better toward the end of the day.
Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it s better to exercise later in the day.
Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to get distracted. This is partly because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Research also shows that we become sleepy around 2 pm.
Finally, it is best to eat during our active periods. This allows our body to burn calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.

【推荐2】We all love our parents: our parents love us too. Things, however, can still be wrong if both parents and children are not used to their ways of expressing love in the right way. With parent-children relationships, the importance of it is even more.
Different people have different ways of expressing love. The way someone expresses love is referred to as the language of love. In the book The Five Love Languages, the writer Gary Chapman states the five key love languages people use are: words of affirmation (肯定), quality time (spent together), receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch.
Being brought up in a different generation, it’s not surprising to know our language of love is likely different from our parents’. For example, my parents express their love by acts of service. They like to do things for me. For me, I express love by giving words of affirmation. I also use other ways to express my love, but communicating in the form of words is the primary method I use. I’m always telling them how much I love them.
This difference created a big rift between us at the beginning. I would try to communicate with them, but get nothing in return. In turn, they kept trying to do things like buying food for me and cooking for me, but I would be impatient of their preference for food. It wasn’t until I recognized their underlying intentions(意图) that things changed.
What do you think represents love to your parents? Rather than “speak” to your parents in your language of love, speak to them in their language of love. This means if their language of love is quality time together, then spend more time with them. If their language of love is receiving gifts, then buy a small gift that means something to both of you. If their language of love is words of affirmation, give them a compliment(称赞). They will be able to recognize your intentions more easily that way, and accept them more readily.
Don’t force them to accept a language they cannot recognize. An example would be to insist on hugging them when they’re clearly uncomfortable with the idea. While you may have the best intentions, you just force them to accept your beliefs.
Learn to “speak” to them in their language, not in your language. You’ll get much better and faster results this way.

According to researchers from the University of California, people who don’t get enough sleep are less willing to socialize (社交) with others. They are simply too tired to go out.
The researchers did a small study. They tested 18 young people who had just had a good night’s sleep-as well as tested them again after a sleepless night. The participants(参加者) watched videos of people with neutral (中性的) expressions walking toward them. When the person on the video got too “close” to them, they pushed a button (按钮) to stop the video, which recorded how close they allowed the person to get.
The results showed that the participants kept the person at a distance of 60 percent further back if they hadn’t gotten enough sleep. They felt that their personal space was being invaded (侵占). But when the participants got a good night’s sleep, they allowed the person to get much closer to them.
According to lead researcher Matthew Walker, the less sleep you get, the less you want to socialize with others. In turn, other people may think you are weird and stay away from you. This can make you feel lonely and cause you to sleep even less. It becomes a vicious cycle (恶性循环).
So if you want to be a more sociable and popular person, sleeping well might help. “One night of good sleep makes you feel more outgoing and socially confident,” Walker told the Daily Mail.

Celebrate beauty of Lantern Festival
庆祝元宵节
Many traditional Chinese festivals remind us of the aromas of special foods. As zongzi are to Dragon Boat Festival and mooncakes are to Mid-Autumn Festival, yuanxiao—sweet dumplings made of sticky rice flour—are special to Lantern Festival.
Lantern Festival falls on the 15th of the first lunar month, marking the end of the Spring Festival celebrations. This year, it falls on March 2.
Apart from the round-shaped yuanxiao, another beloved part of the celebration is the lanterns, which come in almost every possible size and shape. In old times, riddles were pasted onto them so that people could try to solve them while looking at the beauty of the lanterns. However, both tradition and handicraft have become less popular among young people.
Lantern Festival was at its height in the Tang and Song dynasties. It was a day of great fun back then. In the evening, people went into the streets with all kinds of lanterns, watching lion or dragon dances, eating yuanxiao and setting off firecrackers.
The festival also provided a chance for unmarried young girls to go out freely in search of their true love, since they weren’t normally allowed to do so. The famous Song Dynasty poet Ouyang Xiu recorded this romantic tradition with the well-known line: “Atop the willow tree hangs the moon; my date comes in the evening soon.”
