①Have you heard of mourning (悼念) technology?
②Last night is really unusual for me. I couldn’t imagine I could speak to my parents. And for a moment I even forgot I wasn’t really speaking to real them, just their virtual images (虚拟形象). In fact, both of my parents are still alive and well. But the virtual images could help me understand the technology, which is an APP created by a company called Here After Al.
③Mourning technology can let you communicate with the people you have loved but lost. This used to appear in science fiction. But now it has come into our real life. Maybe it sounds some scary, but it’s not difficult to see that more and more people might turn to the virtual images for comfort.
④However, there is still something imperfect. These virtual images are just facades (表象), but in fact they don’t know anything about you. Anyone who talks to them can get almost the same answer. The biggest problem with the technology is that you can’t create a person who is only right for you.
⑤A virtual image that can hold more conversations with you helps make you feel connected to the person you loved but lost. But a sad person needs to know that only a small part of a person can be captured (捕捉) by these images instead of replacing healthy, normal human relationships.
⑥At the same time this also brings other risks when creating a virtual image, such as moral (道德) problems. Some may think that it’s less important to a person who is already dead. But what if the person isn’t actually dead? Should he or she have a say, too?
⑦If virtual images really come fully into our lives, there’s no doubt that we need new rules about what we leave online. But if we deal with the possibility of misusing virtual images before, rather than after, they are widely used, our lives will be better.
⑧Luckily, I still have the valuable chance to spend more time with my father and mother, face to face, without technology.

A return mission
Chang’e 5 marked China’s first take off from the moon to carry samples(标本)back. This success shows China has mastered the technology for travelling between the Earth and the Moon, which also will help with China’s future space research. The last lunar sample return mission was Luna 24 of the former Soviet Union(苏联)in 1976.
Larger samples
Chang’e 5 collected 1,731g of lunar samples, while the former Soviet Union sent back only 330g. “These samples will be a treasure,” said a US Professor Jolliff, “My hat is off to Chinese scientists for completing a very difficult mission.”
A new landing site
Chang’e 5’s lunar landing site is known as the Ocean of Storms. It’s on the near side of the moon. No probes( 探测器 )have visited that place before. The samples collected here provide the youngest ones ever tested: just 1.2 billion years old. Samples from the U.S. and the former Soviet Union landing sites are more than 3 billion years old, scientists say.

Ronni Abergel, a Danish reporter, started the first Human Library in Copenhagen in 2000. He wanted to create a safe space for people to discuss difficult themes.
There are now Human Libraries in more than 80 countries. Instead of books, the libraries’ resources (资源) are humans. When you walk into a Human Library, you can see a list of the day’s available “books”. These “books” are actually human volunteers who have “published (出版)” their stories and experiences. Once you choose one, you sit down with the “book” either alone or in a group and have a conversation.
“We look for volunteers that are homeless, have no jobs, have certain disabilities, etc, they can help educate us,” Ronni explained. “What could be a better resource to learn from than someone with a lived experience? Whether you’re young or old, rich or poor, no matter who you are, we can all meet up in the library and learn.”
Most people walk out of the Human Library with a new understanding of themselves and others. Ronni believes that listening to another human’s experiences can break us out of our “shells (壳)” and change our opinions.
Would you like to visit a Human Library and have a conversation with a special “book”?

Many people think that the videos can make their food more appetizing (有食欲的), just like a spoonful of pickles sometimes making a meal taste much better.
②The topic received more than 16 million clicks on Sina Weibo and about 100, 000 people joined in the discussion. Instead of having meals with friends and family members, many young people in China are kept company by TV shows or short videos. Many believe that their food is tastier with the “digital pickles”.
③Can this habit affect your diet? According to a research paper published in 2019, you may eat more without knowing it. The international research team asked 62 volunteers to follow different eating patterns on four different days. The patterns included eating while looking at the mobile phone, reading magazines and without distraction (干扰). After analyzing (分析) their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction increased caloric ingestion (卡路里摄入) by about 15 percent.
④To find out the reason, the team also invited two groups of people: one group ate while listening to an audio clip (音频剪辑) about another person eating and the other listened to a clip that helped them imagine themselves eating. The results showed that the second group ate less since they were more focused on their meals. When we eat with the “digital pickles”, our attention can be distracted, which leads to eating more than expected.
⑤Not only videos and audios but also other tasks can work as digital pickles. A research project led by the University of Sussex, UK, pointed out that activities which require lots of attention trick many participants into overeating. The team invited 120 participants to do various tasks while providing them with drinks and snacks. “Our study suggests that if you’re eating or drinking while your attention is distracted by a highly engaging task, you’re less likely to be able to tell how full you feel,” one of the authors Martin Yeomans explained.
