Zhangzhou hand puppetry (木偶 戏) has a history of over 1,000 years. Hand puppet shows require performers to have direct control of their hands. In 2006, Zhangzhou hand puppetry was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage.
Zhuang Yanhong is an inheritor (传承人) of Zhangzhou hand puppetry. She was born into a “hand puppetry family”. She studied in a professional art school and was able to perform with masters across the country at 16.
Hand puppet shows became less popular with the rise of TV dramas. To save the old art and make it alive again, inheritors have been doing what they can. “The puppetry has become much more realistic after flexible (灵活的) arms and legs with joint were invented. It has also borrowed from other show forms like Peking Opera, modem TV dramas and cartoons,” Zhuang said. ▲ .
“There is no limit to hand puppetry because it often requires much imagination and creativity in nature. I’m looking forward to more of its new, creative forms.”

How much sleep do we need? We are all different. A baby needs 16 hours of sleep every day. Children 6 to 12 years old need an average (平均) of 10 to 12 hours of sleep. Teenagers need 9 to 10 hours of sleep. An adult needs an average of 7 to 8 hours a night. There are some people who need only 3 hours of sleep. Others need 10 hours of sleep. After the age of 50, the average sleep time goes down to 6.5 hours a night. We need less sleep as we get older.
About one in three Americans has a problem with sleep. Many of these people can’t fall asleep. The name of this problem is insomnia. Some people say, “I didn’t sleep all night.” But that’s not really true. They may sleep lightly and wake up several times. In the morning, they only remember the times they were awake (醒着), so they think they were awake all night.
This is not a new problem. Many famous people in history had insomnia. Some of these people had special ideas to make them sleep. Benjamin Franklin had four beds. He moved from one to another to fall asleep. Mark Twain had a different way. He lay on his side (侧卧) across the end of the bed!

Stove-boiled tea, a new way of drinking tea, has become popular in China. The process of drinking tea has a sense of ritual (仪式), and that has become a new favourite of young people.
The art of boiling tea on a stove takes time and needs constant attention to the temperature in order to properly “cook” the tea. Usually, the process includes lightly roasting tea leaves before boiling them in a pot over a charcoal-filled stove. People sit around the stove and have snacks such as fruits, nuts and desserts with their hot tea, which can be enjoyed alone or blended with flowers and milk.
It’s such a pleasure to chat with friends while you are enjoying this new style of drinking tea. On social media, many people also post their moments of boiling tea in traditional hanfu.
Similar to other trending lifestyles such as cycling and camping, stove-boiled tea reflects young people’s strong wish to escape from cities in order to get close to nature and have a peaceful mind. It’s completely relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the breeze, and chat with best friends.
Do you want to have a try? There’s something important to remember. When sitting around a stove and boiling tea indoors, please keep the room well ventilated and be careful of the fire.

Smokejumpers are special firefighters. They jump from planes into areas that are difficult to reach by car or on foot, like the middle of a mountain forest. They race to put out fires as fast as they can.
At the scene of the fire, smokejumpers first check the land and decide how to fight the fire. They try their best to stop a fire from spreading (蔓延). Using their tools, smokejumpers clear the land of flammable things like dry grass and leaves (叶子). They usually carry some water with them.
In the USA, although most smokejumpers are men, more women are joining. The important thing is that their height and weight must be within a certain range (范围). For example, smokejumpers in the USA must be between 120 and 200 pounds, so they don’t get hurt when they land, or get blown by strong winds.
Smokejumpers must also be able to live in the wilderness. In Russia, many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and make simple tools.
The work is dangerous, and the hours are long. But for smokejumpers, smokejumping isn’t just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires, and live in the forest. As a 28-year-old Russian smokejumper, Alexi Tishin says, “This is the best job for brave people.”

The policy calls for reducing homework and after-school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for middle school students to finish their homework. After-school training institutions (机构) are not allowed to offer advanced (提前的) teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “Weare not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.” According to Shen, students have enough time to learn new knowledge now. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to try out and learn from real life,” said Shen.
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “Double Reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and musical instruments. I can learn all kinds of skills more than schoolwork,” said Zhang.

The secret mostly lies in your ring finger and index finger (食指). It can say a lot about what kind of person you are. This test only applies to (适用于) men. There are three types: A, B and C.
A. The ring finger is longer than the index finger
We’re talking about handsome men here. They’re charming (有魅力的) and can get along well with everyone. Yet, they become angry easily, like to attack and are quick to take risks. This also means that this type of person often makes more money than their colleagues (同事) with shorter ring fingers, though they all work hard.
B. The ring finger is shorter than the index finger
Men with these hands are very confident and can even be a little narcissistic (自恋的). These people have no trouble being alone often and don’t like being disturbed. However, when it comes to love, they are less confident as they’re not the ones to make the first move and take the initiative.
C. The ring finger and the index finger are the same length
Maybe this has said enough already. Men with these hands are good mediators (调解者), very faithful and loving. Everything is balanced with this type. They’re calm and everything seems to run smoothly, as if it’s all organized.
