Is the whale the world’s largest fish? No. It looks like a fish but it’s not a fish. Then what’s the world’s largest fish? It’s the whale shark.
A whale shark is sometimes called a “gentle giant”. The biggest whale shark weighs more than 12 tons and is nearly 66 feet long. This makes it heavier and longer than a school bus.
Inside its huge mouth are lots of very small teeth. To count all of them you’ll need to do arithmetic(计算). The whale sharks teeth are in rows. There are between eleven and thirteen rows on each jaw and around three hundred teeth in each row.
However, the whale shark hardly uses its teeth. It does not chew or bite its food.

3. What is inside the whale shark’s huge mouth?
4. Why does the whale shark hardly use its teeth?

Ladybugs (瓢虫) are loved by people so much. In many cultures they’re considered good luck. There are about 5,000 different types of ladybugs in the world. They come in many different colors and patterns, but the most familiar in the UK is the seven-spot ladybug, which has a shiny, red-and-black body. Most people like ladybugs because they are pretty, graceful and harmless to humans. Farmers also love them very much. They eat aphids (蚜虫) and other plant-eating pests.
Most ladybugs have oval, dome-shaped bodies with six short legs. Depending on the types, they can have spots, stripes (条纹) or no markings at all. Seven-spot ladybugs are red or sometimes orange with three spots on each side and one in the middle. Their head is black with white patches (斑点) on either side. The ladybug’s bright colors can warn animals they’d better not eat them. When they are in danger, the ladybugs produce an oily, yellow fluid from joints in their legs—and their coloring acts as a reminder to any predators who have eaten their kind before that they taste disgusting (令人厌恶的)!
These bugs have another trick to avoid danger, too—remain still and pretend to be dead. Simple, eh? Birds are ladybugs’ main predators, but they also fall victims (牺牲品) to frogs, spiders and dragonflies.
Seven-spot ladybugs are native to Europe but were introduced to North America in the mid-1900s to control aphid populations. These ladybugs are happy in many different habitats (栖息地), including grasslands, forests, cities, suburbs and along rivers. During spring and summer, when they are most active, these ladybugs can be seen fluttering around or walking on the leaves of plants. But when the weather turns colder in autumn, they look for a warm, secluded (与世隔绝的) place to hibernate (冬眠), such as under rocks or even inside houses. They like to group together, too.

2. Why do farmers love ladybugs?
3. What will ladybugs do when they are in danger?
4. When can ladybugs be found easily on the plants?
5. Do you love to keep ladybugs as pets? Why or why not?
Say hello to Changesite-(Y)— the sixth new lunar mineral(月球矿物)!
Chinese scientists found it in moon samples(样品)brought back by the Chang’e 5 lunar probe in December 2020. It has become the first lunar mineral found by Chinese scientists, making China the third nation in the world, after the United States and Russia, to have achieved such a success, reported China Daily.
Changesite-(Y)looks crystal(晶莹的)clear like a diamond. But its chemical content is different from any other known mineral.(A)It has a high level of rare earth(稀土), reported China Science Daily. Li Ziying, chief scientist of the lunar sample research, said that the finding of this new mineral will help researchers study the history and physical traits(特征)of the moon. The value of the rare earth in(B)it will also be studied.
(C)Besides the new mineral, scientists also measured the content(含量)of helium-3(氦-3)from the Chang’e 5 samples. Helium-3 is a valuable fuel(燃料)that can provide safer nuclear energy(核能). It is not radioactive(放射性的)and would not produce dangerous waste. On Earth, we have only 15 to 20 tons of helium-3 that can be used. But after studying the moon’s soil, scientists said there could be at least 1 million tons of helium-3 on the moon. That’s enough for all people on Earth to have clean energy for 10,000 years!

3-D printing builds homes of the future
What can 3-D printers(打印机) make? They can make a lot of things, such as toys and cars. But what about a house? In Netherlands(荷兰), 3-D printed houses will soon come into life. Netherlands is the first country to build such houses.
Scientists decide to build five houses with 3-D printers. They will finish the first house in 2019. It will be a three-bedroom house. For the first house, only the walls will be 3-D printed. A 3-D printer will print it with a special cement(水泥). The cement looks like cream. The printer will print it layer upon layer to build the walls. After that, workers will make the walls stronger.
When they start working on the fifth house, the scientists hope that they can build most parts of the house with 3-D printing.
