Falling asleep in class is still common among students. Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class?
A main reason is short of sleep. However, there are also reasons for getting too little sleep. Homework is necessary for most students, one that can take three to four hours every night. And a student who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late. Club activities, sports, computer-game playing, and TV viewing, for example, all make students have less time for both homework and sleep.
Physical problems are another reason that can have students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia (失眠) may keep a student tired during class hours. It is a serious problem that may need medical attention.
The effects (影响) of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear (使……受喜爱) yourself to teachers. Secondly, it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the worst effect of sleeping in class is missing important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up with failing classes.
Since students are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably go on. It will continue until more students find a way to balance (平衡) their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.

Online discussion: As a Junior high school student, do you need your parents to teachers to be your life mentors (导师)? |
Student A: As teenagers, we always have trouble in our lives. Our parents and teachers expect us to solve problems by ourselves. But for many reasons, we can’t easily solve them. So it becomes necessary for us to have a mentor when we need help. |
Student B: I once had a good mentor, so I support this idea. Mentors are not like teachers. They can give students very personal advice and help based on their own experience. What’s more, students won’t feel too stressed because they can talk with their mentors freely. |
Students C: It’s embarrassing (尴尬的) for students to talk about their personal problems. In fact, not everyone can do this. There might also be a generation gap (代沟) between students and their mentors. |
Student D: Maybe students can get useful advice from experienced mentors. But I think, the more experience you get from others, the less you will learn on your own. We should learn from our own experiences. I prefer to have a life journey of my own with my own stories. |

Televisions are like books or films. A child can learn bad things and good things from them. Some shows help children to understand the news and places from other countries or other times in history. With television a child does not have to go to the zoo to see animals or to the ocean to see a ship. Boys and girls can see a play a concert or a game at home.
Television brings many places and events into our homes. Some programmes show crime and other things that are bad for children, so parents sometimes help them to find other interesting things to do.
