________
Some people think that the kitchen is not a good place for children. They want to keep children safe, and they worry that children will get hurt. There are a lot of sharp (锋利的) and hot things in the kitchen!
But learning to cook may make you safer. When you cook, you learn about what can be dangerous. You find out what to touch (触摸) and how to touch it. As you learn to cook, you can also learn how to keep yourself safe in the kitchen.
So Much to Learn
People may say that they are too busy and don’t have time to teach children to cook. They worry that it will take longer to cook dinner with children in the kitchen. At first, it may take a little more time to help children learn to cook. But they will get better when they practice (练习) more. After some time, they may even help cooking go faster!
You can start by doing easy jobs, such as washing fruits and vegetables. Then you can try making cold foods, such as salads. Later, with the help of an adult (成人), you can start making hot meals.
Cooking also helps with schoolwork. You need to use maths to work out how much money you save when you cook at home. When you read a recipe (菜谱), you can learn new words. You may not see them in schoolwork.
Be Creative (有创造力的)
Part of cooking is learning to make food look good to eat. When food looks good, people think it tastes (尝起来) better. Making food look good is a way of being creative. You can arrange (排列) fruits or vegetables by color. Or you can make a pancake with a funny face of berries for eyes and a mouth!
Not everyone will become a cook. But everyone can learn to cook. What other thing teaches so much and tastes so good?

By combining music with mobile technology, three students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University have tried to help them with an app called Starrypia.
Tan Yilan, Zhang Junwei and Cai Yu spent five months building their AR-gamified music therapy app for children with autism. Autistic children use the app to scan things around them and they get clips (片段) of music as well as cartoon images. Then they form these clips of music again to create songs, which would be recorded in their music diaries.
“This is actually a kind of music therapy, through which autistic children can better express themselves. The process also trains their abilities of cognition (认知), listening and concentration,” said Tan. With AR interaction, the app encourages children to scan and tell the differences of all kinds of dolls, animals and plants. They even designed different levels, guiding users from their surroundings to nature.
According to the app’s developers, traditional music therapy is usually taken in hospitals. Autistic children sit in front of computers learning some music courses. But Starrypia makes the process more like a game, drawing children’s interest, reducing children’s resistance (抵触). Besides, it can be used anytime and anywhere, making the therapy lighter and easier.
Starrypia will soon be showed on the App Store. The developers are also preparing to sell the music works created by autistic children in the digital form of NFT (非同质化代币),and return the money to their families.
When they tested the APP on autistic children, they got good responses, not only in professional terms but on the children’s faces.” I saw their smiles as they played with Starrypia, making everything worth it,” said Tan.

75% of the US kids said they get along with their parents. But that doesn’t mean they never disagree. In fact, most kids reported arguing with their parents, at least sometimes. And 40% of the kids said arguments sometimes even include shouting at each other.
“It’s certainly normal to disagree and argue,” says Darcy Lyness, an American expert. “But it’s also important to learn how to do so respectfully (尊重地).”
And also, 75% of the kids said they had lied (撒谎) to their parents sometimes. Many said they lie so they would not get into trouble or disappoint their parents. According to Lyness, lying isn’t just wrong. It can actually have bad results. Telling the truth builds trust.
Telling the truth shows maturity (成熟). But older kids actually lie more often than younger ones. Kids aged 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also think they have less fun in life.
According to Lyness, those feelings are common. As kids become more independent, they have more areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesn’t have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along differently at each stage of the journey, it is important for everybody to change.”
1. In Lyness’s opinion, kids ________ their parents.A.never agree with | B.may argue with |
C.must always agree with | D.can shout at |

Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and the rate of breathing.
Other tests have shown that laughter appears to make the effect of pain on the body less. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group which could bear the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can make pain less seems to be that it helps to produce endorphins(内啡肽)in the brain. These are natural chemicals which make both stress and pain less.
There is also some evidence to suggest that laughter helps the body’s immune(免疫)system. In an experiment, doctors found the group which could bear the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. This is because it helps to produce endorphins(内啡肽)in the brain. These are natural chemicals which make both stress and pain less.

When I was about 12, a girl in my class liked to point out (指出)my problems. I was too thin, I wasn’t a good student, I talked too much, I was too proud, and so on. At last, I became very angry and ran to my father.
He listened to me quietly. Then he asked, “Are these things true or not? Do you know what you are really like? Go and make a list of what she said and find the things that are true. ”
I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I discovered (发现)that about half of the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin). But there were things I could and wanted to change. For the first time, I got a clear picture of myself.
I brought the list back to Dad. He didn’t take it, “That’s just for you,” he said “You know the truth (真相)about yourself better than anyone else. When people say something that is true about you,you should find it helpful. ”

【推荐1】The day I became a mom was not the day my daughter was born, but seven years later. Up until that day, I had been too busy trying to survive my abusive marriage. I had spent all my energy trying to run a “perfect” home that would pass inspection each evening, and I didn’t see that my baby girl had become a child. I’d tried endlessly to please someone who could never be pleased and suddenly realized that the years had slipped by and could never be recaptured(重现).
Oh, I had done the normal “motherly” things, like making sure my daughter got to ballet and tap and gym lessons. I went to all of her recitals and school concerts, parent-teacher conferences and open houses — alone. I ran interference during my husband’s anger when something was spilled at the dinner table, telling her, “It will be okay, Honey. Daddy’s not really mad at you.” I did all I could to protect her from hearing the awful shouting after he returned from a night of drinking. Finally I did the best thing I could do for my daughter and myself: I removed us from the home that wasn’t really a home at all.
That day I became a mom was the day my daughter and I were sitting in our new home having a calm, quiet dinner just as I had always wanted for her. We were talking about what she had done in school and suddenly her little hand knocked over the full glass of chocolate milk by her plate. As I watched the white tablecloth and freshly painted white wall become dark brown, I looked at her small face. It was filled with fear, knowing what the outcome of the event would have meant only a week before in her father’s presence. When I saw that look on her face and looked at the chocolate milk running down the wall, I simply started laughing. I am sure she thought I was crazy, but then she must have realized that I was thinking, “It’s a good thing your father isn’t here!” She started laughing with me, and we laughed until we cried. They were tears of joy and peace and were the first of many tears that we cried together. That was the day we knew that we were going to be okay.
Whenever either of us spills something, even now, seventeen years later, she says, “Remember the day I spilled the chocolate milk? I knew that day that you had done the right thing for us, and I will never forget it.”
That was the day I really became a mom. I discovered that being a mom isn’t only going to ballet, and tap and gym recitals, and attending every school concert and open house. It isn’t keeping a spotless house and preparing perfect meals. It certainly isn’t pretending things are normal when they are not. For me, being a mom started when I could laugh over spilled milk.

Dear Mom and Dad,
The time has come. I’m graduating (毕业), and I thank you both for all your help during these 13 years. I still remember when you used to say, “You can be whatever you want.” I’m so glad you are my parents, especially when I hear kids say they don’t get on well with theirs. I’m glad that you support (支持) me when I decide to do anything. You always try to help, and that’s important to me.
Dad, I remember when you first took me fishing. I loved going even though I never caught anything. I also remember when you would get angry with me. I know you were only trying to show me the right way. When I would cry, you would always be there to try to cheer me up. That’s what I call a good, loving, caring dad. Sometimes you and Mom don’t agree with me, but you are there by my side in anything that I do, and that’s why I love you both so much.
Mom, I enjoy going out with you and having our happy time every Friday night, and I hope that never changes. I love telling you everything; the best part about you is that you listen. I’m glad we do a lot together. You love to have fun, and Dad does, too. You always give me your opinion (看法) and I listen.
Thank you for bringing me up.
Love always,
