Do you feel surprised? What is wrong with giving up? Oh yes, we all have been trained and asked to work hard to achieve our dreams, and that is a good thing. The problem comes out when all these inspirational quotes (励志名言) start confusing us.
These messages tell people not to give up, but they don’t tell you that it should only apply to (适用于) your true dreams. They tell people to “try and try again” until they succeed, but that amount of effort should only be put toward what people really want in life and they should never give up no matter what life goals they have. The rest is all just there to confuse you, distract (使分心) you, give you a headache and sadness, so don’t let it happen.
If you are really not good at something, give it up and try to do something you like. Once you do something you like, you won’t feel bored and also won’t give it up. You know clearly what you want even the road to success is hard. So you need to know what you’re good at. To find your talent, you need to observe (观察) the things around you and write down the things you’re interested in on your notebook. Then you can search them on the Internet and know more about them. Asking your parents or friends for help is also a good idea because they can see something you can’t. They can help you know yourself clearly.
Try to discover your talent, your ability and your skills. Find out what you are good at, what makes you happy and then work on it. If you do, no one would have to tell you or inspire you not to give up because when you love something, you keep trying until you get it right and the enthusiasm flows from within. Don’t worry about what people will say or think. It’s your life, so you have to love it and be your own boss.

A man was walking through the woods with his axe when a small tree called to him. It said, “Hello, my friend. Can you cut down those bigger trees? They stop me from getting the sun. It is so crowded here that I have no room to grow my roots (根茎). I can’t feel the wind.”
The little tree held out its small leaves. It looked so sad. Then it cried, “If those trees were gone, I’d be able to grow. A year from now, I’d be the biggest tree here. But for now, I’m just a small tree.”
The man thought for some time and agreed. He walked over to the bigger trees and started cutting them down. He cleared lots of space around the small tree. Now it could be able to feel the sun and wind. It would grow bigger and become the biggest tree in that area.
But something else happened. The sun came first, burning (燃烧) the small tree, as it wasn’t used to so much sunlight. Then heavy wind and rain came, without the bigger trees to protect (保护) it, the small tree was hit by the rainstorm. Soon, the tree was almost dead.
“You’ve been quite not clever,” said a snake that saw what had happened, looking at the poor tree and its small leaves. “In fact, you brought this on yourself. After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch (树枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still.
The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. “It is unbelievable!” shouted the king.“ How could you make it happen?”
The farmer replied, “It’s very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested.”
It is always the same to human beings. We all have “two flying wings” in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we are just for safety and comfort. We won’t realize we can fly so high and freely until the “branch” we are resting on breaks.

On a wild mountain, two goats met on a rock just over a high cliff (峭壁). The rock was so narrow that there was neither room for them to pass each other nor to turn round and go back.
One of them with great care laid himself down on the narrow rock, pressing as close to the rock as he could. Then the other goat gently and softly stepped over his friend, till, safely past him, he could lightly get away.
The goat that had lain down then drew himself up, safe and free to leap again from rock to rock, and eat the sweet grass on the hills.

The old man pointed towards a road and said, “Walk on this road. After 20 kilometers you will see a tree. Magic fruits grow on that tree. The story of the farmer’s success reached the ears of a reporter, and he wanted to interview the farmer. While he was learning about the farmer’s growing skills, he found that the farmer shared his best quality seeds(优质种子)with his neighbors.
“How could you afford to share your best corn seeds with your neighbors when some of them might go to the fair as well?” the reporter asked.
“Why couldn’t I?” the farmer replied. “The wind picks up pollen from the corn and moves it from field to field. If my neighbors grow poor quality corn, cross pollination(交叉授粉)will finally degrade(降低)the quality of my corn too. If I want to grow high quality corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn too.”
The farmer’s answer made the reporter understand how wise the old farmer was about connections in life.
It is the same with our lives. Those who choose to live in peace must help others around them to live in peace too. Those who wish to be loved must learn to love others too.
