Let's go camping
If you've been to camp before, you're not surprised to hear about the advantages of summer camp. Here is a list of the most important reasons to send your kids to camp. As you know, at camp, children can do as many things as follows.
Make true friends
Camp is the place where kids make their very best friends. Free from the social expectations and stress at school, camp encourages kids to relax completely and make friends easily. All the amazing activities and endless fun at camp draw everyone together. Every day, friendships are created.
Learn social skills
Coming to camp means joining a community where everyone must agree to work together and respect each other. When they live in a small room with others, kids solve problems without the help of families, and understand the importance of open communication more deeply. Camp builds teamwork.
Grow more independent (独立)
Camp is the perfect place for kids to practice making decisions for themselves. Managing their daily choices in the safe, caring environment of camp, children welcome this as a chance to grow in new directions. Camp helps kids develop who they are.
Experience success and become more confident
Camp helps children build self-confidence. With its non-competitive activities and different chances to succeed, camp life really opens a new world for young people. There's achievement every day. Camp teaches kids that they can.
Spend their day being physically (体力的) active
As children spend so much time these days inside and mostly sitting down, camp provides a wonderful chance to move. Running, swimming, jumping, climbing! Young bodies get fully exercised. Camp is action!

But other students said they saw it all the time at their school.“In fact, the cell phones with cameras are popular in our school and they are very useful, especially in our tests. We would take a picture of the test, and then send it to the next person or the person in another classroom, who is taking the same test.”said Melisa Sparks,a student.“They would send the question and the answer, too. It’s quicker that way.”another student said.

I was still a thief when I met Romi. He was watching a wrestling match when I approached him. He looked kind and simple enough for my purpose.
“Hi, I’m Hari. You look a bit of a wrestler yourself.” There’s nothing like flattery to break the ice! Then we talked a lot about the wrestlers. When he walked away, I gave him my most appealing smile, “I want to work for you and you only need to feed me.”
Romi took me to his house. It was quite nice working for him. I bought the day’s supplies, making a profit of two or three dollars. I think he knew I made a little money this way, but he didn’t seem to mind. He taught me to write my name and said he would soon teach me to write whole sentences.
One evening, Romi came home with some notes and put them under the mattress. Well, it’s time I got down to some real work.
Romi was sleeping peacefully. I drew the notes out of the mattress without a sound and moved quickly out of the room to catch the 10:30 train.
When I reached the station, I should have jumped into the train, but I hesitated for some reason. I can’t explain and I lost the chance to get away.
I had no idea where to go. I had no friends. The only person I knew really well was Romi. He must be sad when he discovered the theft—not for the loss of money, but for the loss of trust.
The night was cold and a shower of rain added to my discomfort. I felt for the notes, they were soaked through.
Romi’s money. In the morning, he would probably have given me five dollars to go to the movies, but now I had it all: no more cooking, or learning to write sentences.
Sentences! I had forgotten about them. Writing complete sentences, I knew, could one day give me more than a few hundred dollars. It was a simple matter to steal. But to be a really big man, was another thing. I should go back to Romi, if only to learn to read and write.
The next morning, when I woke up, Romi handed me a note—fifty dollars! My heart sank.
“I made some money,” he said. “Now I can pay you regularly.”
My spirits rose. But when I took the note, I noticed that it was still wet from the night’s rain.
“Today we’ll start writing sentences,” he said.
I smiled at Romi in my most appealing way.

In English there are many words to show your politeness; the use of “sir” and “madam” is not an important one. These words are used far more rarely than we think. In Britain, it is unusual for someone in the street to say “Excuse me, sir.(2) Can you tell me the way to the station?” The people who use the word “sir” in this way are usually expecting some money for a service—a taxi or a waiter. For example, “That will be $12,sir.Thank you!”
The word “please” is used everywhere in Britain.(3) Many visitors don’t know when to use “please”. When they go into a cafe they say “A coffee.” or “I want a coffee.” or even “Can I have a coffee?”(That might be really alright in their own languages).However,(4) it seems that they are impolite! Just adding a simple “please” would make it better —“A coffee ,please.” or “I would like a coffee, please.” It is better and safer to always use “please”!
Let’s look at polite ways of asking questions. Instead of a direct question we often use “Can you” and “Could you” before we say what we want .Look at these examples, which are from a normal conversation at home between husband and wife: “Can you park your car over there, please?” “Could you move the table against the wall, please?”
“Could...?” is a little more polite than “Can...?”,but both questions contain the word “please”.
If you are not a native English speaker ,then to use “Can...?” and “Could...?”to express a request is wise. In fact, you can be even more polite: “Sorry, could you tell me the way to Oxford Street, please?” “Sorry, could you tell me your name again, please?” (5) it’s, with, the, word, request, very, common, to, start, a, “sorry”.
If you ask for help, try “I’m sorry to bother you, but could you help me, please?” You might say to a friend “Hey John, lend me $100,will you?” But you couldn’t say this to somebody you do not know well.

In 2009, Todd Bol put up a Little Free Library with the used boards. That was to show his respect and love for his mother, who loved reading very much. The idea quickly spread, and Todd made a wise decision to set up Little Free library as a non-profit (非营利的) organization with signs that read “Little Free Library: Take a Book, Return a Book.” Today there are about 100,000 little free libraries in over 100 countries and they have a great influence on people’s life.
Studies have shown that books in the hands of children have a meaningful influence on improving literacy (识字). Little Free Library spreads the idea that literacy is of great importance and pushes people to learn and grow in their own literacy.
Little Free Library can greatly improve the relationship among neighbors and strangers, too. “Within just a few miles of me, there are many little libraries in folks’ front yards, sharing the joy of reading with anyone who passes by. I just live in such a world where books, and the knowledge that comes with them, are highly valued.” Catherine, an American woman, said, “I’ve even received a note of thanks from a gentleman named Esteban. He was especially thankful to have a “friend” on a cold night: ‘Thank you for this wonderful gift of a book. It’s an excellent friend on this cold and lonely night. I’ll return one in its place as soon as I can!’”
If each building has such a library, we will soon have a society that spends less time on the phones and more on the pages of a book.
The idea of Little Free Library was first created by Told Bol. He made it for his mother who was a book Little Free Library tells us that literacy is so If there is such a library in each building in the future, people will spend more time reading instead of playing on the phones. |
