I am Peter. As a university student, I decided to learn German. For some reason I really liked the language, but I was not very good at learning it. The grammar troubled me a lot and even drove me crazy. My only advantage (优点) was spelling—I got an A on every word test I took. After two years of studies, I struggled to communicate in broken German and signed up to study in Germany to complete my degree. It was the hardest term I would ever have.
The moment I arrived in Germany, I felt like I was starting from scratch. The German I’d learned in university wasn’t practical for everyday conversation. My book knowledge fell by the wayside as I thought about the basics of getting around, reading emails and talking with my classmates, I was often nervous at school, worried about whether the teachers would call on me in class and whether I’d understand their questions. I only relaxed a little around my eight roommates, who were willing to speak German slowly to me.
I chose to study three courses-reading & writing, grammar and history. All were in German and difficult, but the history class was the worst. The teacher spoke so quickly that almost everything he said flew right over my head. I sat in the front, took notes and even recorded every single word he said in class, but nothing helped. I had no idea what the class was really about…
Years have passed, but I still remember how it felt to struggle so hard at learning another language. That trip was a difficult but valuable lesson. I think my failure that term taught me just as much as my success.

It is well-known that silk was discovered in China. Chinese silk is strong, light and soft. As one of the best materials for clothes, it has a perfect look and feel that no other materials can match (与……匹敌).

For hundreds of years after that, silk was only used by rich people. With the development of the silk industry, more silk was produced. It was no longer just for rich people. In the Han Dynasty (汉朝), silk was transported (运输) as far as Spain, Rome and many other countries. The trade road was known as the Silk Road, which connected China to the rest of the world.
Today, silk can be used not only for clothes but also for paintings, kites, and even fishing nets. Wherever Chinese silk goes around the world, it is always warmly received.

For Canadian singer Justin Bieber, it’s not easy to grow out of being a pop star.
The 27-year-old singer’s sixth album(专辑) Justice came out last month. The album begins with Martin Luther King Jr’s speech: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
There’s so much wrong with this “broken planet,” according to Bieber. “In making this album I wanted to make this kind of music. It will give comfort (安慰),” he said.
Not everyone likes his songs. The album is mostly about Bieber’s love to his wife. The speech has nothing to do with the song, BuzzFeed News wrote.
⑤ Luckily, Bieber’s effort to change has been noticed. The album at least shows that Bieber is “an adult”, and for the most part is “professionally crafted pop (专业制作的流行乐)”, the Rolling Stone said.
Growing up as a child star, Bieber met many difficulties. He had mental illness and drug abuse (药物滥用) problems. After getting over these, he is now trying to set his eye on the big picture. It just seems he has a long way to go.
