But students with the handwritten notes were able to better remember and understand the lesson a week later, and were more open to new ideas. That’s the problem. Students chose to take notes with a computer because it could help them take notes faster, but it undermined learning.

University of Indiana researchers compared brain scans of five-year-olds. Some of them practised writing letters down and some just looked at the letters.
