【推荐1】I’m Ted and I come from Brazil. I live in China with my parents now. The Dragon Boat Festival is my favorite festival. It is a traditional (传统的) Chinese festival and I always do something different on that day.

On that day, people have zongzi for lunch as usual. So I buy some rice, sugar (糖) and reed leaves (粽叶) with my parents at the supermarket. I fold the leaves with my mother and my father does with the rice. We work together to make zongzi.

After having zongzi, we go out to a famous park three kilometers away from our house. There are lots of interesting activities in the park every year, such as dragon dance and dragon boat race. We see many people taking part in the dragon boat competition. Of course, we also join in it. However, other boats run faster than ours. So we usually lose the competition (竞赛) but we have a great time there.

Although it is tiring that day, I am excited to learn something meaningful about the festival. I like the festival.

Many people like to travel when they have time off from school or work. They might go to their hometown to see their family, or travel somewhere far. But not everyone does this. More and more people are choosing (选择) to take a “staycation”.

A staycation is a new word for a period of time when people stay at home on vacation or take day trips from their home to local (当地的) places of interest. Some people might travel around their city, visiting local parks and museums. Others might try countryside trips and take part in local festivals. People like me love to just stay at home.

I had a staycation of my own over the summer. I slept late every day. I worked on music and played video games. I wasn’t too lonely. Because I had my cat to play with, and I got together with some of my friends around the city.

A. Awakening of Insects        B. The Beginning of Summer        C. Tomb-sweeping Day
D. Minor Heat        E. The Beginning of Spring          F. Winter Solstice
1     Being a traditional holiday, it is still now celebrated quite often in many areas. Midwinter day is the day in the northern areas with the shortest day and the longest night year-round. After it, daytime will become increasingly longer and the coldest climate will hit all the places on the Northern part of the globe. On that day, it’s a tradition to eat dumplings in the north of China.
2     It is the 11th solar term of the year, which happens in July. It signifies the hottest period is coming but the extreme hot point has yet to arrive. During this time, farmers are devoted to field management. Kidney bean, peanut and so on are growing now, and people water and also prevent the injurious insects.
3    It is the third solar term according to the Chinese lunar calendar. When it comes, spring thunder (雷 ) cracks the sky and everything in nature begins to grow. It means that animals sleeping in winter are awakened by spring thunder and that the earth begins to come back to life. After it, days will get warm, rainfall will increase and nature will change quietly.
4    The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. It is the first solar term of the year. This year it begins on Feb 4th and ends on Feb 18th. It lifts the curtain of spring. After that, everything turns green and full of vigor. People clearly see that the daytime is becoming longer and the weather is becoming warmer.
5     It falls in early spring, on the 106th day after the winter solstice. It is a time to remember the dead and honour one’s deceased ancestors and family members. It is a “spring” festival, and it is an occasion for the whole family to leave the home and to sweep the graves of their forebears.
