Tianjiang Food Kingdom located in Foshan’s Shunde District is the sixth automated restaurant operated by Qianxi Robot Catering Group (机器人餐饮集团).
The robot restaurant has a seating capacity of nearly 600 people and accommodates (容纳) over 40 robots that can cook some 200 dishes from three main types: Chinese food, hot pot, and fast food.
Guests arriving at the pink-and-white restaurant order foods with wide-eyed robot waiters. When ready, the food is delivered directly to their table from a skyrail system. Some robots, such as the burger machine, serve customers 24 hours a day.
Xiao Ran, deputy general manager at Qianxi Group said: “A complete scientific control system and the widespread use of smart equipment reduce the risk of coronavirus infection. This makes it safer and cleaner.
The need to reduce human-to-human contact during the COVID-19 pandemic has given robots a good platform. Since January, they’ve been used to disinfect (给……消毒) hospitals, serve food to sick patients, and watch the streets. Some of these robocops can do everything from taking people’s temperature and delivering public safety messages to anyone caught without a face mask in public.
The pandemic has also given businesses like unmanned convenience stores and automated grocery delivery services a new lease on life. During China’s COVID-19 peak in February, Qianxi Group sent a Wuhan hospital a robot capable of preparing over 100 portions of clay pot rice (煲仔饭) per hour, reducing the risk of transmission (传播) from human contact.

Her app is called Timeless. It uses facial recognition technology. Alzheimer's patients can use the app to look at photos of their friends and family. The app will tell them who the person is and how they're related to the patient. If a patient doesn't recognize someone in the same room, they can take a picture and the app will try to identify them.
Yang got the idea after seeing how facial recognition is used in different areas, especially health care. She worked with a tech company to create the facial recognition software that her app uses. She learned to code (编码) for the iPhone for the first time in the process.
The app is still in development. Yang is trying to raise money through crowdfunding (众筹) so she can take the next step-letting patients try a pilot version (实验版本) of the app. Though some may think that the app is too hard for older people to use, Yang is hopeful. "If you introduce it to them the right way, it's actually possible for them to use it and it can really help them live better." she said.
Memory expert Katherine Possin agrees. Possin said looking at photos on the app can help patients feel more social. It can also improve their memory, she added.

One recent study shows that 84% of cell phone users say they could not go a day with no phones. Another study shows that more than 50% of cell phone users have a look at their phones for messages even when there is no warning (提示) sound.
What if you put away your digital equipment for one day? You can try it on the US Unplugging (不插电) Day. It is on the second Friday of March each year. On this day, people don't use digital equipment for 24 hours.
Many people find this “Unplugged”' day to be longer than most days. “Without my cell phone, my breakfast is too short and I don't know what to do next,” one person says after trying this day.
But others like the idea. “My friend and I have dinner in the evening…We can really hear what the other person is saying.” another person says.
Unplugging can be difficult. But it also helps people slow down and think about their lives. At the end of the day, you may find that you don’t miss your digital equipment that much.
