文章大意:本文主要介绍了日本的举年糕比赛。

1 . In Japan, rice cakes are part of people’s everyday life. They call them “mochi”. They usually make mochi into desserts, soups and hotpot dishes.

Every year, Japan holds a rice cake lifting competition. People make big round rice cakes and take turns to lift them. For men, the rice cakes weigh 150 kg. For women, they weigh 90 kg. By doing so, people believe that they can be healthy. Many visitors, both men and women, would also take part in the competition.

On February 23rd, 2022, the competition was held at Daigo-ji Temple. Luckily, I saw the rice cake lifting competition for the first time. It was even more exciting than I had expected. At first, they held a ceremony as they did each year to pray (祈祷) for a successful event. Then people tried to lift up the huge rice cakes to pray for their own health.

They can’t be lifted easily. All the competitors did their best. The woman who got the first prize in the girl’s part kept lifting the 198-pound rice cake for 6 minutes! It is an unbelievable record! Their performances brought happiness to not only themselves but also the audience (观众). It was a really great moment for me to remember.

根据短文内容,判断句子正 (T)、误 (F)。
1. People in Japan hold the rice cake lifting competition for healthy bodies.
2. People usually hold a ceremony to pray for the competition before the competition.
3. The writer thought the competition was very exciting.
4. The writer takes part in the competition every year.
5. All the competitors must lift the cakes at the same time.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了与“狼”有关的英文习语。
2 . 根据短文内容,用符合语义及语法规则的词填空,每空一词。

English is rich in expressions that come from animals. Today we will talk about the wolf.

Wolves are important animals in the traditions and stories of America. Before the Europeans arrived at north America in the 1500s, wolves often meant being brave to native Americans.

However, in English, wolves are not to be trusted. Perhaps wolves attacked (攻击) too many people or ate too many farm animals. Whatever the reason, wolves were killed in many places. So many wolves died that they almost became endangered. They also became known as bad animals.

To begin with, there is an expression “lone wolf”. If we call somebody a lone wolf, he isn’t a bad person, but he may like to do things by himself. In fact, he sometimes makes you think he doesn’t want to be around people because he dislikes them.

Now, let’s move on to the home. Parents tell their children not to wolf down their food. In other words, the child eats too quickly and without care. And if someone says a child was raised by wolves, that child has bad manners and is behaving like a wild animal.

By the way, there is popular expression about wolf from a very old story: a wolf in sheep’s clothing. A wolf in sheep’s clothing describes someone who acts and looks nice on the outside but is bad on the inside. It tells us not to be fooled by appearances (外表).

1. Wolves often meant being ________ to native ________ before the Europeans arrived at north America.
2. In English, perhaps because wolves attacked too many people or ate too many ________, they are not to be trusted.
3. If someone likes to do things by himself, we can call him “________.”
4. “Wolf down their food” means someone eats too ________ and without ________.
5. A wolf in sheep’s clothing describes someone who acts and looks nice on the ________ but is bad on the ________.

文章大意:本文主要讲在年轻的时候要多出去旅行,跳出舒适区才能成长。
3 . 请阅读下面短文, 根据语篇内容, 在方框内的缩写文章中, 填入与短文意思最符合的单词。每空一词。

In high school and college, you may be encouraged to travel or study abroad. Perhaps you are too busy with your schoolwork to consider these chances seriously. But I encourage travelling at a young age. The earlier you travel widely, the more you can learn.

Travel can increase personal experience and make us more confident (自信的). As young people, most of us live with our mum and dad. Our community knows us well, too. We may be afraid to get out of this comfort zone (舒适区).

However, one learns the most in strange situations. In our daily lives, we know well how to act and communicate with people. But how about being in a new place with strangers who hold different values? It can be uncomfortable at first. But once you walk out and connect with other people, you can become smarter and more confident.

By travelling widely, you can also understand cultural differences better. That is important. Because it is not enough to just know, “People from that country are like this. ”

When I was in Spain, for example, I found people there took a two-hour break in the middle of their workday. Many foreigners think the Spanish people are lazy. Few of them know that people there place great value on family time. To the Spanish people, eating together as a family is more important than anything else. In fact, every time we go to different areas, we feel not only the differences in behavior and habits, but more of the differences behind different cultures. If you are able to realize this point, it will help you with your communication on both working and personal levels. Finally, I’d like to mention that travelling abroad will be a wonderful way to learn a new language. Being in a new language-learning environment, you will have to use the language. In this way, you will improve your language skills better.

Travelling at a young age can help us learn a lot. If we have a chance to travel or study abroad, we should     1     consider it. Travelling makes us experienced and confident. So we will not be     2     even if we get out of the comfort zone. We can also develop the ability to     3     different cultures by travelling widely. For example, we can find people in Spain often take a two-hour     4     in the middle of their workday. That’s because they think family time is very     5    . Besides, travelling abroad is good for language learning. A new language-learning environment helps us improve our language skills better.
