1 . Hayao Miyazaki (宫崎骏), a famous Japanese filmmaker, has won his second Oscar. At the 96th Academy Awards, his most recent film, The Boy and the Heron (《你想活出怎样的人生》), won the Best Animated Feature. It was the 83-year-old and his famous Studio Chibli’s second Oscar after Spirited Away (《千与千寻》) made history as the first non-English animation to win the same award in 2003.
Set during World War II, the film follows the adventures (冒险) of a young boy named Mahito. After losing his mother during the war, Mahito moves to his family’s old house in the countryside. There, a series of (一系列) amazing events lead him to an ancient tower. The tower is home to a magical grey heron (苍鹭). When Mahito’s new stepmother disappears (消失), he follows the grey heron into the tower, and enters an amazing world shared by the living and the dead. With the heron as his guide, Mahito starts to uncover (揭开) the secrets of this world and the truth about himself.
The film, like most of Hayao Miyazaki’s stories, mixes fantastical elements (奇异的元素) to teach important lessons about love, family, friendship and more. It is certainly a good watch throughout its two-hour running time. Do you want to watch the film?

2 . Gui Haichao is not only an astronaut but also a teacher of a university. On May 30th 2023, he took the Shenzhou-16 Spacecraft with Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and flew to space. They will work in Tiangong Space Station for about five months.

3 . Chang Xiangyang is over 50 years old. She has helped more than 2,100 families with sick children in six years.
In the summer of 2017, Chang met an old woman in Xi’an Children’s Hospital. The old woman’s grandson was ill in hospital, and to save money on hotels, she slept in the corridor (走廊). She ate a little every day because the food in Xi’an was too expensive for her. Chang was touched, and she made a decision to set up a “home” for difficult families with sick children.
Chang created “Xinyu Home” for families with sick kids across from Xi’an Children’s Hospital. “Xinyu Home” is 200㎡. Difficult families with sick children from all over the country can live there for free. They can also get psychological (心理学的) help and other services.
A doctor from the hospital said, “We deal with the kids’ disease (疾病), while Chang helps solve the problems of their livings. She brings hope to lots of families.” Doctors often meet parents there to offer medical help. And many sick children’s parents join Chang’s “Xinyu volunteer team” to help others.

4 . 74-year-old Yang Weiyun doesn’t sing, dance or sell things on Douyin. She teaches pinyin. And many of her students are adults (成年人).
Yang worked as a Chinese teacher in a primary school for 30 years. Later, she went to work in a kindergarten (幼儿园) and she worked there for 20 years. Several years ago she left the kindergarten. However, she still wanted to do something meaningful. So in May 2021, she began to teach kindergarten kids pinyin on Douyin.

They are afraid to go to new places and worried that they can’t teach their children. So Yang added special classes to meet their needs.

Zhang Mei is one of Yang’s students. She grew up in the countryside and had never been to school. She moved to the city years ago. However, illiteracy made her life very hard.
