2 . Teachers help us become good students and people. So we should (应该) thank them for their hard work. In China, we have Teachers Day on Sept. 10th. On that day, we say thanks to our teachers and sometimes give them small gifts. But how do the US students thank their teachers?

First of all, the US schools have a whole (整个) week in May to appreciate their teachers! Teacher Appreciate Day is on Tuesday of that week. They have parties with gifts and snacks that week. There are also signs (标语) everywhere to show their love for teachers.

The US students like to give small gifts to their teachers and the teachers love getting thank-you notes from their students. Teachers also like getting arts and crafts (手工艺品) or trinkets (小饰品) from students.

Should we say thanks to our teachers only on Teachers’ Day? No. We should thank our teachers all the time. Always show your love to your teachers. It helps them do a good job.

4 . In many English homes, people have four meals a day — breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. People have breakfast from 7:00 to 9:00 in the morning. They eat eggs or bread. English people drink tea or milk for breakfast, too. Lunch comes at about 13:00. Afternoon tea is from 16:00 to 17:00, and dinner is at about 19:30. They often have soup, and they have some chicken or fish with vegetables. Then they eat some bananas, apples, or oranges. But not all English people have meals like that. Some of them don’t have dinner in the evening.

5 . There are many festivals at our school. This month is October. In October there is a sports festival. We have the volleyball game and the basketball game during (在……期间) the festival. On October 15th, there is an English festival. On that day we have an English speech contest (演讲比赛). On the last day of this month, there is a music festival. On that day we can enjoy beautiful music. It’s really wonderful. Next month, there is an art festival. Students often display (展示) their pictures on that day.

6 . Many people like to travel by plane, but I don’t like it because an airport(机场) is usually far from the city. You have to get there early and wait for hours for the plane to take off and it is often late. You can’t open the window. You can’t choose(选择) the food. Many people think planes are fast, but they still(仍然) take hours to get out of the airport and into the city(城市).

I like traveling by train. I think trains are safe. Railway stations(火车站) are usually in cities. When you are late for a train you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and look at the things on the way. You can see many interesting things on your way. I know it takes a little more(更多的) time.

I also like cars. You can start your trip when you want to, and you don’t need to get to a railway station or a bus stop(公交站). Also you can carry many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.

8 . Do you want to have a garden at home? Work with your mom or dad and you can grow（种植）fruit and vegetables at home. Here are some suggestions（建议）.

Find a place for the garden

You will need help from your mom and dad. They can help you find a right place for your garden. It can be a small one, but make sure your garden gets lots of sunlight（阳光）!

Grow your plants

Dig holes（挖洞）and then put the seeds in. Don’t put too many because they will have no place to grow well.

Water your plants

Make sure you give some water to your plants. They need water to grow just like you do. But don’t water too much or you’ll drown（淹死）your plants.

Get the fruit and vegetables

Your plants start to grow, and then you will get fruit and vegetables. You can wash some and then cat them, or you can use some to make a very nice dinner.

Growing fruit and vegetables at home is great fun.

9 . The food in Britain (英国) is very different from our Chinese food. For example, they eat a lot of potatoes. They like to eat them every day. They eat bread for breakfast. They eat their bread with butter, cheese (奶酪) or jam (果酱). And those things we don’t eat much in China. Cheese and butter are made from (由……制成) milk. They drink a lot of milk, too. They drink the milk cold or hot, and they put it in their tea. They put sugar in their tea, as well. They are the world’s biggest tea drinkers. They like Chinese tea, but they drink mostly strong black tea from India and Sri Lanka (斯里兰卡). They don’t eat much rice. For their main meal they like meat or fish with potatoes and one or two vegetables. They serve all these together. After the main meal they always have something sweet. They call this dessert. They don’t have jiaozi in Britain.

10 . Do you always eat well? It’s essential for your health! You need apples, oranges and other fruit. You need vegetables too. Fruit and vegetables are good for you. Just eat them more every day. Meat isn’t very healthy food. You can eat some, but don’t eat too much. What about ice cream? It isn’t good for you! So don’t eat it.

Do you play sports? It’s good for you, too. Basketball, volleyball and soccer are all great sports. You can play one of them after school. Play sports with your friends every day!

Do you like watching TV? It’s fun to do it and it’s good for your mental (精神的) health, but don’t watch TV too late in the evening.
