1 . Homework should be done as soon as you get home from school. If you have after-school activities, the homework should be done first. At the same time, it is fine to allow for a snack (零食) break and also to allow for stretching (拉伸的) breaks.

Also, you should remember that it is your duty to do your homework. Next time, when you want to depend on Mom and Dad for help, please try to find the answer yourself, because you will learn much, much more that way.

When you have a question, especially something about a science or math, don’t always turn to your teacher! It is a good idea to try to find the answer yourself. If this doesn’t work, you can also look at the materials (材料) in the back of the book. They may guide you to the pages you should look at to help you understand the problem.

Finally, while doing homework, don’t think about or do other things. Keep working. Setting a time limit (制定限制) often helps with this. Different ages decide different amounts of time. 10—15 minutes is good for a child that’s aged 6—8. A time of 20—30 minutes is about eight for a child aged 9—12. Kids can keep studying for 30—45 minutes from the ages of 13 to 15. This, of course, depends on your abilities to pay attention and stay on tasks (任务).

3 . We know that many children have problems in learning body language. If your children do, there are some ways for you.

Match the actions(动作) to the messages. Teach your children what different body language can show. When someone is playing with the fingers, it means that he is bored or he doesn’t catch what you’re saying.

Give examples(例子). If you’re watching TV together, you can turn down the sound. Then you can ask your children, “Why do you think the person feels that way?” And you can say things, like “his face is red”. It helps your children know the way to show what they think.

Play games. It is good for all family members to play a game about body language. You can write different emotions on cards, such as happiness, sadness, anger and so on. Then some of you draw pictures and show them, and the other family members try to guess what they are. You all may have much fun. And your children can understand these words well.

Think more. Just the actions can’t show all the things. You need to teach your children to think about sound and words to get all the information. With the help of both of them, children can learn more about body language.

4 . If you are an auditory learner, you learn by hearing. You often learn by reading out aloud, because you have to hear it or speak it in order to remember.

Here are some things that auditory learners can do to learn better.

Sit where you can hear.

Use cards to learn new words; read them out aloud.

Read stories or material out aloud.

Record yourself when you are spelling words and then listen to recording.

Study new material by reading it out aloud.

If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You like to see what you are learning. Here are some things that visual learners can do to learn better.

Sit near the front of the classroom.

Use cards to learn new words.

Try to visualize things that you hear or things that are read to you.

Write down key words or ideas.

Draw pictures to help explain new ideas and then explain the pictures.

If you are a tactile learner, you learn by touching and doing. You are a “hands-on” learner who likes to touch, move, build, or draw what you learn.

Here are some things that tactile learners can do to learn better.

Do lots of hands-on activities like doing art projects, taking walks, or acting or stories.

Use cards and put them in groups to show relationships between them.

Follow words with your fingers to learn spelling.

It’s OK to tap (轻敲) a pencil, shake your foot or hold on to something while learning.

5 . The best way of learning a language is using it. The best way of learning English is talking in English as much as possible. Sometimes you’ll get your words mixed up and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can’t understand them. But if you keep your sense of humor（幽默）, you can always have a good laugh at the mistakes you make. Don’t be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It’s better for people to laugh at your mistakes than to be angry with you, because they don’t understand what you are saying. The most important thing for learning English is: “Don’t be afraid of making mistakes because everyone makes mistakes.”

6 . Do you think it is difficult or boring to learn English?     1    . You may find learning English is great fun.

Learn English through films. Be sure to choose your favourite films. You’ve watched the films many times and know the stories by heart.     2    . When watching the films, have paper and pens ready. You can write down useful words or sentences that you wish to learn.

    3    . If you’re a music lover, what could be better than studying new words by listening to your favourite songs? First of all, read the lyrics（歌词）and try to understand what the song is about.     4    .

After collecting new words and sentences from the films and songs, look up their meanings in a dictionary.     5    . At last, to memorize the new words, you need to study them again and again.

7 . You've been learning words since you were a tiny baby. At first, you learned them only by hearing other people talk. Now that you're a reader, you have another way to learn words. What should you do when you come to a word and you think you don't know what it means?     1    .

Say it

First sound it out. Then say it to yourself.     2    . Sometimes you know a word in your head but you don't know what it looks like in print. So if you match up what you know and what you read - you have the word!

Use context

If this doesn't work, take the next step: look at the context — the other words and sentences around it. Read this sentence: When it rained, the dog looked for shelter in the doorway.     3    . Rain and in the doorway might give you helpful information.

If the context doesn't help, look at the parts of the word. Does it have any parts you know? These can help you understand what it means. If you don't know the meaning of miner, try looking at parts of the word. You might know that a mine is a place underground where people get coal and other valuable things. A lot of times, -er at the end of a word means "a person who does something". So a miner might be someone who works in a mine.

Look it up

If the three steps above don't work, you can look it up.    5     — either a book or online.

Nobody knows the meaning of every word, but good readers know how to understand words they don't know.

8 . As we all know， English is an important subject in middle school． Everyone knows that they must learn English well， but some people don't   know how to learn it well． Here are some suggestions which may help you with your English．

The biggest problem is people' s own fear． They worry that they won't say things correctly or that they will look foolish so that they don't speak English at all． Don't be afraid of   being laughed at．Only if we aren't afraid of making mistakes can we learn English well．

The fastest way to learn something is to do it again and again until you get it right． Learning English needs practice． Don't let a little fear stop you from getting what you want．

The best way to learn English is to have a good environment． Take notes in English， put English books around your room， listen to English radios， watch English news， movies and TV programs． Speak English with your friends whenever you can． The more English materials that you have around you， the faster you will learn it．

Many people think that exercises and tests aren't much fun． However， by doing exercises and   taking tests you can really improve your English． If you never test yourself， you will never know   how much you are making progress．
