2 . Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics( ). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.

The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.

The researchers made the discovery( ) while examining the structure of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids( ). It made the natural enzyme’s plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.

John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We’ve made an improved enzyme. It’s better than the naturl one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”

The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量的). “We’ll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go,”John McGeehan added.

3 . This passage is about RealCine.
The technology behind RealCine is virtual reality (VR). Unlike ordinary cinema, RealCine excites all five of our senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and even taste. RealCine works by making the viewers feel that they are actually in the film. To achieve this, special VR headsets(耳机)are made to help the viewers see a world of 3D and hear the sounds clearly all around them. Special gloves are also worn so that people and objects in the film can be touched. Both the headsets and the gloves are connected to the RealCine computer system. To add to the virtual(虚拟的)world of RealCine, smells are given out through small openings in the headsets. Special food and drinks are delivered into the viewer’s mouth via a sensor.
In scientific studies it has been shown that VR can provide teenagers with another way to experience the world. For example, in one experiment, a teenager whose dream was to be a world–famous football star experienced a VR film where he played the role of the captain of the Brazilian football team.
Besides films, VR might also have some other uses. For example, firefighters could be trained using RealCine to avoid the risk(冒险)of entering a burning building themselves. It could be used in the classrooms too. Teachers could bring history alive by placing students in a famous battle(战役)or they could teach biology by allowing students to be a whale or an ant for a lesson.
1. Is the technology behind RealCine called VR?
_____________________________________________________________

2. What do viewers wear so they feel they are actually in the film?

3. How are smells given out?

4. Why do firefighters use RealCine?

You are visiting the Big Ben in England, but the next second you are in France. Then, suddenly you may see some animals that have disappeared. But you are not in a wonderland. This is what might happen to you in the near future, with the help of VR (虚拟现实) technology.

VR is a computer technology that creates an environment and allows users to see and even interact (互动) with it. Just wear a pair of VR goggles (护目镜) connected to your computer and you can experience a lot of things without stepping out of your room.

“The most attractive part of VR is that it offers an immersive experience. You become a part of the story. That's why VR movies are popular among users.” said Wang Bing, leader of the Chinese entertainment company Funshow.

According to the Report on Chinese VR Users' Behavior announced last month, over 960, 000 people in China have bought VR products and 83.2% of them have watched VR movies.

The use of VR is not only used in entertainment. VR can help to train pilots (飞行员) and workers before they have to actually risk their lives in highly dangerous working environments. VR also helps to treat patients with acrophobia (恐高症) by making them think they are standing on top of a tall building.

7 . It seems like technology is everywhere. Computers and smart phones are at the center of almost everything we do. They constantly(持续地) require our attention. We text our friends with them during the day, sleep with them by our beds and check our messages as soon as we wake up .
