8 . It is important for each child to get enough sleep every day. Here, we’ll learn more about that.

It usually depends on their age. Newborns (新生儿) of 0 to 3 months should sleep for about 18 hours a day. Babies of 4 to 11 months should start to sleep through the night, for 9 to 12 hours at a time.     2     Children of 3 to 5 years should get 11 to 13 hours a day. Children of 6 to 13 need 9 to 11 hours of sleep. Teenagers of 14 and up need 8 to 10 hours of sleep.

Set a strict nap timetable (小睡时间表). Younger children should take a short sleep during the day. Even older children can benefit (得益于 ) from late-afternoon naps if they don’t get enough sleep at night.     4    

Pay attention to (注意) screen time. Remember to ask children to turn off the television and the computer an hour before they go to bed. If possible, get them out of their bedrooms since the light (光) from the screens can make sleep a difficult job.

Get children moving.    5     Running around and playing sports are great, but children can move in other ways, too. They can take a dog for a walk or go to the park — just get them out of the house and get them moving.

Long time ago, a man believed that he could use the stars to predict the future. He spent his time at night     1     the sky. He was always busy worrying about the future.

One evening the man was walking     2     the road outside the village and kept looking at the stars. He thought that the stars     3     the end of the world was near. He couldn’t stop     4     it. Suddenly (突然), he fell into a ditch (沟) full of     5     water.

How are you? It has been a month since my family left Hong Kong for England and we are fine.

England is very different from Hong Kong. The weather is terrible and it rains a lot. The buildings are funny. They are in rows and not high. I love them because the rooms are much larger. I’m having a wonderful at my new school and my new home!

Mum and Dad are happy with their new jobs. But my brother Jack doesn’t like moving to England because he misses his friends so much.

I’ve made lots of new friends at school. My teachers are really nice too and my English has improved a lot. After school, we can take part in relaxing activities such as sport, watching films or playing computer games. There’s a park near the school where I often go with the other students at the weekend.

We are travelling back to Hong Kong for the summer holiday. I will visit you and bring you a present!
