If you were ninety years old, what would you plan to do? Few people want to have new     1     at that age. However, an old man named Jing Kui did something that surprised a lot of people.

As a man of 93, he met a challenge. One day, a film director came to him and asked     2     he wanted to act in his movie. “What can I do in the movie?” asked the old man.

“You’ve been a barber. I believe you’re the     3     man for my movie The Barber.” The old man read the script (剧本) before     4     the invitation. Though he knew the story well, he still needed to     5     all the words in mind. How big the challenge was! He finally made it and took home a silver cup for a special acting prize. The movie also won both national and international prizes.

Jing became a barber when he was young. He loved the job, so he practiced hard to be a better one. In his     6    , he was still doing the same job. That was why he was     7     by the film director.

While the film was being made, the director had     8     worries because he didn’t know if Mr. Jing could keep it going.     9     when the filming was done, the director was really pleased. Jing     10     solved all his problems! Now Jing set a world record as being a 93-year-old actor star who had never acted before!

He watches it every day because that’s     3     favorite show. My brother is     4     the computer in his room. My dog Henry is taking the hat to me with his mouth. As soon as school was over, I hurried home. In the morning, my father told me he was going to bring me a present. I was     1     all day!

Finally, father came home. He handed me a large piece of paper with all kinds of shapes and lines in different     2    . It was a map of China! I looked at it     3     and noticed a long blue line. Father said it was the Yellow River.

The Yellow River! I had heard this name, but never     4     what it meant.

Father added, “The Yellow River is China’s     5     longest river. It is one of China’s most important rivers, and is known as     6     ‘Mother River’”.

“Why it is     7     the ‘Mother River’?” I asked.

“Long long ago, our ancestors (祖先) managed to     8     in the area along the Yellow River and the Chinese nation developed and took shape. And so, we call the Yellow River the ‘Mother River’ of China.”

As I listened to this, I became really moved.     9     the Yellow River, the Chinese nation was born and gradually developed, and so far it has     10     a world power.

Scientists say there are now fewer than 2,000 pandas     1     in the forests. Another 300 or so live in zoos or research     2     in China and other countries. An     3     program in Chengdu teaches children in cities about pandas and other endangered wild animals. They send people to schools to tell children about the     4     of saving these animals. The Chinese government is also     7     more bamboo trees so there will be more forests for pandas to live in. We all hope that     8     there will be a lot more pandas than now.

About three years ago, I     1     very lonely and I didn’t like my classmates, my parents or anyone else. My classmates didn’t want to talk with me and my parents were always saying that other kids were     2     than me. I thought I was the     3     unlucky person in the world.

One day I had a big fight with one of my classmates. I was so angry that I hit him in the face. Just at that moment, Bill stood up and stopped the fight.

After that, Bill often helped me and we became good friends. Whenever I got angry or sad, he would help me calm down (冷静) or cheer     4     up.
