What’s this
2 . It is a fact that people die every moment of every day. However, the deaths of those who have done great work in the public realm (领域) can be especially shocking and heartbreaking — even to those who don’t know them personally
On Jan. 26, Kobe Bryant, one of the most legendary (传奇的) NBA players in history, died in a terrible accident. He was 41 years old when a helicopter he was riding crashed, killing him and eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant.
Following Bryant’s death, people have paid tribute (敬意) to the basketball superstar — not just for his achievements on the court, but also for his personality and the inspiration he has given to us.
In the basketball world, Bryant ranks among the top players of all time. He centered the NBA directly from high school as a basketball prodigy (神童) . He played his whole 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the team win five NBA championships. He was fast, skillful and aggressive (进攻性的) , which earned him the nickname Black Mamba, one of the most deadly snakes in the world. That’s why his competitive philosophy (哲学) is known as the “Mamba Mentality”.
“Mamba mentality is you’re going, you’re competing, you’re not worried about the end result.” Bryant said, “It’s all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it matters most.”
Off the court, Bryant was known as a successful businessman, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, and a proud father of four daughters.
The fact that Bryant is no longer with us is sad. We’ll never see him give another interview or play in another game. But the work he has done will keep inspiring us years after his death.

4 . Dear Tom,
Thanks for your letter. Do you want to know about my evening? Well, I usually get home from work at 6: 00 p. m. I cook dinner for my family — my parents, my sister and my brother. After dinner, I usually watch TV, play computer games or play chess. I like playing chess because my father works in a chess club. I take a shower at around nine o’clock and then go to bed at around nine thirty. Sometimes I read some books because I can learn something about my work.
How about your evening? Write to me soon, please.
Best wishes!
Yours.
Victor

7 . In some Western countries, many children do chores to get pocket money. They usually start to do this when they are ten years old.
School students have to do homework and study for tests. They don’t have much free time on weekdays. They often do chores on weekends.
Young kids only do easy chores. So they don’t get much money. But that’s enough. Many of them only want to buy candy. And candy is cheap! They often help do the dishes, sweep the floor, or feed the pet cat or dog.
When they get older, they want to buy more and more things. They want things that are more expensive than candy. So they have to work harder! They often help their parents wash the family car, cut the grass, or cook meals.
Some jobs are a good way for kids to learn new things. For example, they can learn how to use a lawn mower or how to cook. Of course, their parents help them at first.
